Spoiler: Trio and SG1 The Road Not Taken
Jennifer sat on the East pier with her head buried in her hands. How could I hurt the man who saved my life? She couldn't raise Rodney on the radio and his friends refused to tell her where he was. Imagine how he got the nerve to ask and you couldn't do anything but stare like an imbecile.
"Jennifer?"
She jumped up to see her boss behind her. "Yes."
"Are you okay?" Colonel Carter asked. "You rushed out of the party?"
"No! I just hurt a great guy." She turned and dropped back down as tears finally fell.
"I think McKay's tougher than you give him credit for. His team is pissed though." Sam sat next to her at the edge of the pier.
"I was shocked. He seemed clueless about Katie. What possessed him to ask me in front of everyone?"
"Because he's McKay." Sam chuckled. "So you do like him?"
"Yes," Jennifer admitted aloud for the first time.
"I'll admit that I had a tiny crush on him once," Sam said, barely holding her fingers apart.
A sudden tightening in her stomach caused Jennifer to shift. "Really?" The whole universe knows McKay carried a torch for Sam for ages.
"And I married him in an alternative universe. Just don't tell him that." Sam smiled.
"No. I won't mention it," Jennifer said as she got up. "I'll be heading inside."
"Enjoy what's left of the evening."
The CMO barely smiled. The fact that Samantha Carter in some universe married Rodney McKay did not sit well with Jennifer. Now that the surprise from his offer to spend Sheppard's birthday party with her faded, she was ready to stake a claim on one Doctor Rodney McKay.
A/N: Sam marrying Rodney in an alternate universe has always begged for me to do something with that fact. This was a perfect opportunity. Thanks, Kid!
