The Missing Piece
"I fell in love the way you fall asleep; slowly and then all at once."
John Green, The Fault in Our Stars
A broken heart is the hardest thing in this world to heal; we all search for different and new ways to heal ourselves. We give pieces of our heart away over time and we never truly receive them all back – each piece a gift you can never take back.
Then there is the time when you meet someone who makes you forget about the pieces you are missing; they give you a piece of their heart that fills the empty space you have. They are the person you have known for a while, or a complete stranger you suddenly meet, and you look at them in a way that you've never looked at someone before, maybe it's not love at first sight but in a specific moment you realise that this person, this completely ordinary human being, is your other half – the soul mate you dreamt about and that really they aren't ordinary at all. Their little quirks that compliment your own and make you smile or the way you think the same things.
It's the way their smile is the sunshine breaking through your dull cloudy day. It is a 'dancing around the kitchen, making pancakes, curling up in their arms' sort of love and it's your happily ever after you dreamt about when you were little and read about in fairy tales.
One day you will meet someone that makes you rethink the whole idea of love. Those pieces you gave away before mean nothing, they are just moments of your past; good and bad – you are healed and all the fears and cynical thoughts you once had about love and heart break fade away.
You are in love, true love, and this time it is forever.
