After a thousand years have passed, and the scientists deemed it safe, those in the cavern left and saw sunlight for the first time in their lives. They rubbed their eyes and blinked sleepily as their eyes adjusted to the sunlight, for it was a great difference from the artificial light they knew; and it was a remarkable day in the history of mankind.
Then they returned back for they preferred the artificial lights.
The blue soldiers which were patrolling Earth at that time had seen them poke their heads out and were filled with rage: that there were still survivors after a thousand years of extermination! So they rushed in and killed everybody with their machine guns. The smell of death permeated the soldiers' noses and they sniffed with glee.
The blue soldiers, fresh from another victory against the human scum, made their way back into the forests. The smell of spores was thick amongst the assorted variety of fungi, of which the spotted red mushrooms were most common. The blue soldiers were welcomed by their fellow clansmen, and they broke into song and dance. They were the Smurfs.
Of their most merry chants was the following: "La la la la la la, Sing a Happy Song!"
And the Smurfs lived happily ever after.
