Going up the stairs, to the very top,
Where sunlight shines and shadows hide,
Smiling, I can see the whole world
From the rusted railing and the cement floor.

Up here my secret place,
With the entire world below my feet.
I feel I could fly,
Up here where I am so close to the sky.

I imagine with wings one day,
I will be able to fly over the railing,
Into the warm light and ivory cloud,
As the birds that fly in front of my window.

It's morning and my parents are still asleep,
So I go up the stairs, to the very top,
Where the sunlight shines and the shadows hide,
Smiling, I can still see the whole world

Except this time, I am already beyond
The rusted railing and cement floor.
Away from the complex.
