Severus Snape stalked through his classroom, keeping a watchful eye on Neville, for fear that his cauldron would explode yet again. He also watched Potter, how he loathed that boy. So like his father. James Potter, the arrogant toe-rag as Lily had often referred to him in private. But she mustn't have believed that. No she couldn't have. She married that toe-rag, didn't she?
The bell rang, stating the end of class.
"You are dismissed" he spoke softly and dangerously.
As students filled out of class he kept his eyes trained on Potter. He didn't really loathe Harry. In fact it wasn't the boy himself he hated. It was the fact he looked so like James. Everyday that boy appeared in his class was another day to remind him of what he had lost. He had lost Lily.
His best friend...
His light in the dark that was his heart...
And all because of Potter...
He blinked.
Perhaps it wasn't Potter that had lost him Lily, it was himself. Himself and his big mouth. His anger at how others would think of him if he let a girl defend him. Yes, that girl was his best friend, but others would see it as a weakness. So he had lost her, the only one who really knew him. The real him. Not the one that called everyone of her blood status, mudbloods. Not the one that plastered flies to the ceiling with his wand. The one that cared for her, loved her. The side of him that he could never show the world for fear that they would see him as weak. Weak and a fool. A fool in love with the most popular girl in school. What a fool he was, what a fool. . .
