(A/N: Here we go again. I'm back for another tear jerker, so get your tissues ready. This story and the title is inspired by the song 'Gone too Soon' by Simple Plan.
DISCLAIMER: I don't own these characters, this show, or anything to do with Chicago Fire. All rights go to Dick Wolfe, CBS, and anyone else that has anything to do with Chicago Fire. I am not making any profit off this at all. ALSO, I don't own the song by Simple Plan. All rights go to them, I am just borrowing lyrics from the song. Simple as that.)
Hallie's death took it's toll on everyone, but it couldn't ever effect anyone as much as Matt.
Casey couldn't even wrap his head around what happened. The one thing he could protect her from, he's saved more people than he can count, and he just couldn't save her.
When he saw her, his whole world stopped. He stopped breathing, his heart stopped, all noises stopped. It was like everything was frozen. So when Severide suddenly appeared, he was startled. They worked together, a team, to bring her out of the fiery clinic. But it was too late. She was already dead.
Severide just couldn't believe it. When the doctor came out, Matt ran over, only to find out the love of his life was dead. Gone. Never coming back.
He stood there wanting to comfort his friend. But his body wouldn't cooperate with him. He couldn't make his legs or feet move. He felt like someone nailed his feet down to the floor. So when he saw Peter mills go and comfort the broken Casey, he felt a jolt of jealousy and dread move through his body. That should be him. He should be over there, with his best friend, helping him through the toughest time of his life.
He walked out of the hospital before anyone noticed.
Matt Casey needed his best friend. More than he could ever imagine. He appreciated all the support from both teams, but he needed something more.
Casey never saw Severide again until he showed up at his house.
Carrying a 12 pack of beer, and a sympathetic grin, Severide said, "I come baring gifts."
Casey just smirked back, eyes red from crying, and said, "About time you showed up."
They both went inside, straight to the couch. It seemed to be their favorite spot to just sit, drink and talk.
"You know, it wasn't your fault," Severide said after a few minutes of silence. "It was probably too late for Hallie before we even got there."
Matt didn't say anything to that. Just drank his beer. He knew it wasn't his fault, but he just couldn't help but think it was. He should've got there faster. He should've been able to get to her in time. He shouldn't have left the bed that morning.
They both sat in silence again for a while, slowly emptying the box of beer. Casey never realized his eyes started to fill with tears just thinking about Hallie.
"I never got to say goodbye."
It was whispered so quietly Severide almost missed it. Severide looked over and saw a few tears breaking free of his tear filled eyes. He pulled his friend close to him in a warm, comforting hug, and let him cry into his shoulder.
"She was gone too soon buddy," his own eyes were starting to fill with tears. "She was gone too soon."
(A/N: Well wasn't that a little sad. I know, you're probably like, this is waaaay past that episode. Well you know what? That's okay. That episode will stick with us probably forever because it was so freaking sad. Like, AHH. Okay haha, it's starting to get a little weird now. :P I'll probably eventually wrote more random crap that randomly comes to me because of a song in the very near future, so stay tuned!)
