A/N:Ugh...I spent all night writing this, so you better enjoy it! Lol, totally kidding! ^^ This is my very first fanfiction, so please go easy on me! The idea was in my head for weeks, so I stayed up all night reading some MelloxNear fanfics to get me in a good mood to write the story. Hope you enjoy!
DISCLAIMER: In the actual Death Note anime, did you ever happen to see Mello and Near making out? No? Then that obviously means that I don't own Death Note!
From the doorway of the Common Room, Mello glared at the pale figure, which was currently building his legos. Right now, he really didn't care if Near noticed him or not. He was too busy thinking...
Near... did he even care about anyone?
Was it possible for someone not give importance to, at least, one person? Mello needed to find out, the curiosity was killing him. He knew that he always had someone important to him. His mother. The one woman that had always loved him, no matter what. Even after her death, she would always be important to Mello. This was natural, right? Parents are cared about by their children, no matter what. That must mean, that the people that were most important to Near would surely be his parents, correct? Mello was about to find out.
He entered the Common Room and walked in front of Near. Still playing with his toys, Near looked up at Mello, wondering what it was he wanted. Mello took a bite out of his chocolate bar and sat down next to him. This was one of the incredibly few times that Near was confused. What in the world was he doing?
"So, Near..." Mello started, strangely, in a calm and friendly manner.
"Yes, Mello?" Near asked, even more puzzled by Mello's abnormal behavior, though not showing it.
"Listen, this question's been bugging me all day...how did you feel when your parents died?"
Mello, still expecting some sort of reaction, got absolutely nothing from the albino. He just continued assembling his blocks, no trace of emotion whatsoever on his face. He was still questioning why Mello was asking him something so personal, but he decided that it would just be better to answer his question and get it over with.
"I suppose...I was quite reasonable about it," he began "I had always known that they would've died at sometime, so I was quite I was prepared for it."
Mello felt himself getting angry, he hadn't gotten the response that he wanted. However, he gathered up all of his self-control to try and keep his cool and decided to try another method.
"So then, how would you feel if the person who was most important to you would die?" the blond questioned, determined to get something out of him.
It worked. Near immediately stopped playing and kept his eyes glued to the floor, nervously twirling his hair around his finger and allowing it to fall in front of his dark, abysmal eyes. Mello could've sworn that he saw him shiver a little.
"I would surely kill myself, without a doubt." Near solemnly replied.
This definitely surprised Mello. He wasn't expecting Near to say something so drastic. He stood up from the floor, his composed mask finally torn off, he scowled at Near.
"Geez, Near, who'd be so valuable to you, that you'd kill yourself over them?"
Mello, however, did not wait for an answer. He simply stomped out the door and noisily slammed it shut behind him, which attracted some of the attention of the other children around.
As soon as he left, Near began to shiver uncontrollably at the very thought that the most important person in his life, Mello, would someday die.
Love it? Hate it? Wanna beat me with a stick? Review! I would honestly love some constructive criticism! Remember, this is my first fanfiction and I wanna know what I can do to be better!
