DREAM OF LILIES

Dreams. Distant dreams that haunt the mind and torture the soul. These were the dreams that stalked the sleep of potions master, Severus Snape. Each one was worse then the last. Potions didn't help. Nothing did. Not even the advice of an wise old friend, Professor Albus Dumbuldore, could shake these nightmares from their hold.

In a comfortable bed, deep below the ground level of the Hogwarts castle, Severus Snape slept fitfully in a world of blood and gore, images of people he'd killed racing behind closed eyes. People that had died because of him. One face kept coming back to haunt him. Beautiful fiery red hair, deep green eyes, a musical laugh. Lily Evans. He could never think of her as James Potter's wife, not even when her own son wandered the very halls outside his door.

He awoke, gasping for air, images of flashing green light stealing the life from his gorgeous goddess mingling with his surroundings. He had loved her! He could have protected her! Instead she choose Potter! Toe-rag, no good, showoff Potter! The simple thought made his blood boil. Then regret filled him, for if he had not called her a filthy mudblood that fateful day, then none of this would have happened. She wouldn't have dated James! They would have still been best friends, maybe even more. Oh how he had always wanted it to be more, more then just a friendship. Oh he knew none of her friends had liked him, that they thought he was strange. But he didn't care as long as he was with his precious Lily. Lily, with her dazzling smile, her joy of life, her laughter. She laughed beautifully, it sounded like music when she laughed. And Harry would have been his! Sure he wasn't a fantastic potion's brewer, but half the spells that had come out of that boy's wand! Amazing! Starting the DA, brilliant!

A wistful look crossed the stern features of the professor as thoughts flinted through his mind. He shook his head. Thoughts of the past! Harry wasn't his, nor was Lily. He even wondered if she ever really was.

Standing up he prepared for another day, another day to look at Lily's son and ask himself were he had gone wrong? Why had he lost her?

Amid his thoughts he entered the classroom...

Ok I did this one shot cause I had just finished reading DH ( deathly Hallows) man you gotta feel bad for Snape... Then again he did it to himself. But I was just wondering what he must feel every day he sees Harry so this is the result. Pretty bad probably, but let me know ur thoughts. So let me now in a review! UPDATE: I have a sequel to Dreams, the second one is more about him and Harry then this one, so please review.

Thanks again to Kiara, for her thoughts and correction of the spelling. Though I do not see how being murdered is a redemption, I appreciate you thoughts.

Thanks to Loveland, I'm soo glad you enjoyed it, and there is another one-shot with more about him and Harry!
