It began with his choice of clothing. Luke didn't think like other royalty, always dressing to show off their wealth. He wanted simple but he also wanted style, and he got what he wanted. It pushed the envelope by showing his midriff, something high society would never dare to do for fear of damaging their reputations.
Luke didn't care.
Natalia did.
Luke was a brat in his early adventures and it took a small scale apocalypse for a change of heart. Kinder, gentler and friendlier though Luke was, he was still the same old Fabre boy he used to be. Anywhere an itch appeared he scratched, stomach and other places included. And when he sneezed and his nose ran, his reflex was not to find a tissue. No, he would wipe his nose with his arm and continue on his way, eventually wiping it off on some article of clothing or actually washing it off.
Luke moved subconsciously.
Natalia dissected every action.
The last straw came at dinner. Sitting across from Luke, Natalia consumed her soup with dignity and very little noise, if any at all. Luke, on the other hand, had no sense of spoons, forks and knives and ate whatever he cared to. He would speak to Guy sitting beside him, his mouth still full of food, and it wouldn't disturb the taller male in the least. Guy didn't seem to notice at all. Natalia, watching everything, cleared her throat and addressed Luke as calmly as she could manage. When Luke turned to her, his mouth still full of food and a half-full cup of water in his hand, and asked her what was up, she finally let it loose.
"You are absolutely revolting! You dress with no care whatsoever, you do what you please in public and your table manners are horrendous! You cannot call yourself Luke fon Fabre, son of Duke Fabre, in line for the throne, with such nauseating activity!"
Luke sat frozen in his seat, struggling to swallow the lumps of food stuck in his throat. "Natalia, calm down, you're making a scene and it's bad for business—"
"No, I will not be silenced!" The entire restaurant looked on in pitying silence as Natalia ended Luke's happy life with, "From this point forth, it is my sworn duty to change you from this monster into a man!"
Jade could not wait to see this.
