Summary: A missing scene from Season Six that would have been a kick in the pants to see. Set sometime after Jordan's surgery, but before her and Ivers made up in Dead Again. One shot.

Disclaimer: No, I don't own Crossing Jordan. It's sad, because not only would it be going on a live Season 7, but I would be able to afford a dog, too.

Are You Kidding?

"Dr. Cavanaugh, I thought you only liked tea."

Jordan looked up as she took her change and coffee from the cashier. To her annoyance, William Ivers was standing right beside her.

"There's no law against liking both," she replied hotly. "But I'm sure you could figure out something wrong with it. Maybe it points to a massive 'mismanagement of funds.'"

Jordan turned to leave, but Ivers followed her quickly.

"Yeah, about that…I was just doing my job. It was nothing personal," he said as they headed out onto the sidewalk.

"No, it was just my job, friends, and life. Nothing personal about that," Jordan countered. "Obviously, you have no real reason for talking to me, so please go away."

Undeterred, Ivers kept walking with her. "Actually, I did have a reason for stopping you. Other than the coffee, of course."

Jordan stopped and gave him a look. "What is it, then?" she asked harshly.

Ivers stopped, too. Suddenly, he looked a bit sheepish. "Well…uh…I wanted to know…," he stammered. "Would you go out with me?"

Jordan was speechless with shock. After she picked her jaw up off the ground, she glared at him. "Excuse me?"

"Come on," Ivers said, regaining his cockiness. "You're hot. I'm a stud. We're perfect for each other."

Jordan laughed. "You have got to be kidding! After all the crap you pulled? No, thank you," Jordan said. She turned around and quickly headed down the street.

"You know, I'm very persistent when I want something," Ivers stated, once more catching up to her. He had to take her arm to get Jordan to stop. "You and I are meant to be…just try me for a bit."

With that, he leaned in as if to kiss Jordan. She reacted by shoving him so hard, Ivers fell to the concrete, landing on his backside.

"You try that again, Ivers, and you'll have more to worry about than your rear," Jordan snapped. "Don't ever come near me again."

This time when Jordan walked away, Ivers did not follow.

Jordan contemplated her encounter all the way to the morgue and up the elevator. As the doors opened, she barely noticed Woody and Garret greet her.

"Oh, hi," she replied, clearly dazed.

"Jordan, is something wrong?" Garret asked.

"No…," she said. "I just got asked on a date."

Woody's jealous face immediately popped up, and Jordan noticed it instantly. "Who?" he asked.

Jordan smirked at him, knowingly. "William Ivers."

The look on Woody's face quickly changed to one of disgust. Garret, however, looked a bit worried.

"You said 'no,' right?" Woody asked.

"You didn't break any bones, did you?" Garret asked at the same time.

Jordan just smirked and raised an eyebrow before turning, leaving the two men standing in their puzzlement.
