Nymphadora Tonks is a thief.

She steals peoples smiles and eyes when they think she isn't looking.

She hides ears and hair in her coat. She's got quite the collection, you know, little tufts of blonde and brown and red and blue tied up with string and stuffed deep inside her pockets, getting mixed up with sweets and buttons and that ancient Gobstone she found in Snape's office.

She stole Albus Dumbledore's beard right from under his nose - quite literally. She's got McGonagall's eyebrows as well, they're kept between Charlie's freckles and Mad-Eye's hands.

She stole Harry Potter's eyes once, but she put them back when she found out they came from Lily Potter.

Tonks keeps teeth tucked between her socks and boots, and she's got noses she hides up her sleeve, and legs of all shapes and sizes that go wherever she goes.

She filched Kingsley's skin, and she nicked Narcissa's cleavage, and she pinched Ginny's hair.

She's got Snape's nose - it makes him furious but she won't give it back. She has far too much fun with it.

She can grin like Fred, grimace like Dung, and sulk like Ron. She can hide behind faces with no names, she can turn herself into you, she can invent whomever she pleases. She can tug heartstrings, or earn sneers, or become so ordinary you'll forget you ever saw her.

Sometimes she morphs in her sleep, and she'll wake up with sandy hair and a scratchy beard and hands too large with fingers too long. Sometimes her eyes copy those of the person she's talking to - it's a sure sign of lust, she's realised, as it only happens when she talks to a lover. She puts all her effort into preventing it from happening, she doesn't like giveaways.

Sometimes she steals the face of a man, and stands before the mirror, and speaks things that she oughtn't say to herself. Not from that face, from that mouth. Not when they're not true. Those words only count if they're true.

Nymphadora Tonks is a thief. She stole Remus Lupin's heart and she didn't even realise.
