4. Achondrite - [setting] The Burrow

~oOoOoOo~

Chaos ran clear throughout the Burrow; Christmas was in high spirits, and the group were all ecstatic. Dinner had already been served, bellies were full, and no spirits were being passed around the adults while the children chased each other around the cramped living room.

However, one person felt out of place amidst all of the familial fun: Draco Malfoy. Of course, he had already spent two Christmas' here previously, but tonight he planned on making a special announcement and proposing to his long-time girlfriend of six years - Hermione Granger.

He had asked Arthur earlier to help quieten everyone down when he decided the time was right, but as each minute ticked by, he was getting more quesier. It wasn't that he thought she would deny him, but more of the fact that he'd be bearing his emotions in front of the large group of former Gryffindors.

Stretching out of his seat, Draco headed into the kitchen to grab another tumbler of firewhiskey to swallow back. Barely flinching at the burning cinnamon flavour, he headed back into the loud room.

Before he started to clear his throat, he saw the witch in question crouched down between two of the children playing and goofing around with them. Her cheeks were flushed and he saw a slight twinkle of a mischievous glint flash through her eyes, before she slowly looked up and winked at him.

The simple fact that she still knocked his breath away steeled the fact that she was the witch for him.

So, instead of making a big fuss, he walked over and crouched down on his knees beside her.

"Hermione, I love you. I've loved you for so long know, that I feel I need you more than I do oxygen. Looking at you, down on the ground playing with children; looking at you when you accomplish something else on your long list of 'Noble Deeds by Hermione Granger' to do before she's thirty; looking at you I just know I love you.

"So, will you do me the most amazing honour of being my wife?" finished Draco as he pulled out the ring box from his pocket.

"Oh, Draco … Yes!" she squealed, before launching herself at him and planting her lips on top of his.

After a few moments, when they pulled apart, everyone started clapping.

It may not have been how he had planned, but it had still turned out perfectly.
