Your eyes, so beautiful a baby blue
Filled with laughter would sparkle and shine
But now two deep blue water wells
Stare questioningly into mine

I see a tiny sparkling diamond
Streak across your smooth satin cheek
There was a time when it took just one look
To make my heart melt and knees go weak

There was a time when there was so much time
For us to talk night into day
Or to lie back and watch stars dance in the sky
When we had run out of things to say

I watch that tear roll down your cheek
As I search for words to explain
The hurt that I feel that is tearing my heart
For being the cause of your pain

Why does our heart never cease to ache
When we refuse our first love?
Perhaps it is the longing for our heart to soar
Again on the wings of a newborn dove.
