Chapter 1
"You can't catch me!" we watched as our little brother, James, and our little sister, Margery, played tag with the clown our mom and our stepdad, Byron, had hired. God I hate clowns, I thought, I wish no one had come up with the idea of clowns. The world would be a lot happier if they didn't exist.
"Elise, I don't see why mom and Byron insist on hiring a clown every year. I mean, it's not as if we were turning five. And even then you didn't like them."
"I know Polaris. You've been saying that for the last three years."
"What has Polaris been saying for the past three years Polaris?"
"Only that you and Byron-" I began.
"He is your dad and you should say as much!"
"Fine then. Only that you and stepdad have hired that stupid clown every year even though we don't even like clowns."
Mother turned to my twin.
"Really Polaris, we are only trying to give you what we never had. You should be thankful for such loving parents, you ungrateful wretch!"
"Liar! You guys aren't loving you're monsters! I wish they killed you instead of dad!" she shouted back at mom.
"Why I should lock you in your room for-" I decided I should interrupt right about now.
"How come you never yell at me?!"
"Because Elise, you are an angel but you Polaris cause so many problems that I could swear that you are Satan incarnate!"
"SHE'S an angel?! Didn't you hear? Your precious 'angel' is a Satanist to boot!"
"WHAT?!"
"You heard me. You know that friend whose house she always at? They aren't actually there. They're off summoning demons and worshipping Satan!"
"Elise! How could you? You're supposed to worship God like a good little Christian! Not summon demons! "
Thanks Polaris just what I need more complications!
"Well mother, if you want to know the truth we weren't summoning demons that would be impossible!"
"If you weren't summoning them then what were you doing? And what do you mean impossible? How would you know this?"
"I've already said too much! I have to go!"
I started running towards my bike, my beautiful bike, but Byron got in the way.
"Where do you think you're going? It's your birthday. Why is your mom crying?"
"Since it's my birthday I can go wherever I please. It's none of your business what I do."
Pushing past him I continued on my way Polaris following. As we got on our bikes Polaris apologized for what she had told the old hag that calls herself our mother.
"It's fine. She would have discovered it eventually. It was only a matter of time. Besides, we need to hurry if we don't want them to start without us."
Polaris nodded and we sped up, trying to reach the church before sunset. Our friend Noah told us to meet her there. Something about wanting us to meet a couple of friends of hers.
