"Calm down Fred." Hal couldn't keep the grin from his lips as he watched his best friend pace up and down. "Seriously man you need to seriously calm down."
Fred swung around and looked at his peaceful best friend in the arm chair. "What do you mean calm down. Didn't you hear me. Mary is pregnant."
Hal smiled. "Yes I know. But if you keep this pacing up for the next eight months … then you aren't going to be able to help your wife deliver your child." He couldn't keep the laugh from his voice.
"Easy for you too say Hal. You are a father of two." Fred began pacing once more. "I remember when Alice told you that she was pregnant the first time."
"I admit that I was very nervous. I was nervous when Alice told me she was pregnant the second time." Hal nodded his head. "But I knew that I had to pace myself during the weeks of the pregnancies because I knew Alice was counting on me during and after the child was born. Just as Mary is counting on you Fred."
Fred sighed as he took the seat next to Hal's. "Sorry." He grinned sideways. "I'm going to be a daddy."
Hal clasped his hand on Fred's shoulder. "Yes you are Fred. Yes you are." He was very happy for his best friend. He knew that Fred had always wanted to be a father. He was excited when Hal and Alice announced their pregnancy with Chic …. he was hoping that Mary and he would have their first child along side them. But his hopes didn't die out even when Fred told him that Alice was expecting again. Fred was still counting on his first born to be be born just after Hal's second born. Hal knew Fred kept his disappointment to himself that Alice wasn't pregnant even after Polly was born.
"So your children will be slightly older than my son or daughter." Fred leaned back into the chair. "But I'm very sure that the children will be life long best friends."
Hal grinned. "Chic and Polly can't wait to meet their first friend."
Fred smiled. His foot bounced up and down.
"You need to seriously calm now Fred. You got eight months before your child is here." Hal grinned.
"Yeah yeah." Fred grinned as he folded his arms across his chest.
