The Classic Sonic Story
[Disclaimer: I own none of this]
This will be the start of the first of many stories going through the events of nearly every major Sonic game. I am mostly going to be doing this by watching longplays, so if I don't find every secret in the game please don't be mad. This story will be for the main genesis games and later games with Classic Sonic. Anyways, let's get this show on the road!
Chapter 1: Green Hill Zone
"Go around the giant loop, tumble down tunnels, and jump over crumbling cliffs before you get a chance to blink. Bounce on Springboards but not on spikes. Ouch!"
-Sonic the Hedgehog Instruction Manual
It was a beautiful day on South Island, thought Sonic, as he looked around. He didn't come to this island too often, usually visiting when he had nothing better to do. It was rather hard to find, as it floated around the sea. Awful inconsiderate of it, he thought, you'd think it'd understand that this hegehog would rather not spend more time running on water than he has to. Water was Sonic's biggest fear, as he had never learned how to swim when he was younger, and had several bad experiences with the stuff as a result. He was fast enough that he could run on it, but he really had to motivate himself to so. I should buy a boat or something, he mused to himself. Then he saw something odd.
It was an oversized ladybug. Sonic blinked his eyes a couple of times to make sure he wasn't seeing things, and then noticed something that made the whole thing make sense.
It was a robot.
Having had bad experiences with robots in the past, Sonic jumped on the bot, and crumbled to pieces. As he had hoped, a flicky popped out. Flickies were unevolved Mobians, with no sentience, but a peculiar energy. And there was only one man who knew to harness that power.
Dr. Ivo Robotnik.
Sonic had encountered him only a few times, a mad scientist who supposedly had an IQ of 300, yet Sonic always stopped his diabolical schemes. It seemed that he had made an appearance on this island, and Sonic would be the one to kick him out.
He then saw some rings floating in the air. Nobody knew what rings were, except that they could be absorbed, and give beings an energy boost. He grabbed the three floating in the air, and jumped on a small hill, where a robot bee tried to shoot him. Sonic popped the bug, and found a box with 10 rings in it. He went across a bridge, where a robot piranha attempted to chomp him. Geez, thought Sonic, This is only going to get more annoying isn't it? Oh, well, nothing I can't handle. He sped on, busting some crab bots, and bouncing off a spring to a higher ledge that nearly crumbled out from underneath him. He jumped on some moving platforms and found a tall ledge with a ring box on it. Running across some falling platforms, he found a box that contained some weird device that projected a force field around him. This should be useful, thought Sonic, hope it works well.
Jumping up onto a higher ledge, the blue hog had to curl into a ball to get through a small tunnel set in the hill, he shot out of it onto a platform high up in the air, and jumped onto a much higher platform, which gave way right as he jumped of too get some more rings. He now had 71, and was feeling great. He got to the a flat place where there was a sign with Robotnik's face on it. Sonic decided to make his own sign, and put it next to Robotnik's. Then he saw it.
A massive giant ring, sitting in the air. Bet that'd give me a great boost! Grinned Sonic. He jumped up, and…
...was very concerned for his mental health. He was stuck in a slowly spinning crystalline maze, while stately music could be heard coming from...somewhere. Even though he had been curled up the whole time he was in there, Sonic noticed some blue crystals different from the others that seemed to be containing something. He broke the crystals with his quills and saw a brilliant blue light emitting from a beautifully cut gemstone. He grabbed it, and everything went white.
He was back on South Island. He headed off again, smashing some piranhas as he went.
What was that all about? he thought in utter confusion It was a whole nother world. I wonder what this jewel is. And why was that sign by the ring? Does Robotnik know about these? Is he trying to get these jewels? he paused his inner monologue so he could jump on a swinging platform and jump some spikes. His shield that he had gotten earlier had worn out when he jumped into the big ring, so he didn't want to lose any rings. Maybe those signs mark where the other world can be accessed. This jewel seems pretty powerful, maybe I should see if there are any others. The blue blur zipped around a loop, up a slope and ran into something hidden in a palm tree. It was a sparkling box. Sonic cracked it open, and was surrounded by glittering light. He dashed off, but was so distracted by this new acquisition that he fell into a spike pit. Which didn't hurt him. This stuff protects me Sonic thought with a grin. He jumped over several more spike pits, some crumbling ledges, through a tube, and to another signpost. Sadly, the invincibility had worn off a while back. The Azure hedgie jumped through the ring…
...into yet another maze. This one was far longer, and he bounced around in a daze trying to not fall into some ominously flashing orbs. He found a green crystal container and broke in. There was another container. This one was blue and yellow. The jewel within was also yellow, and upon grabbing it…
...he emerged back into the sunny landscape. He jumped over a spring and rode a platform across a bed of spikes. He bolted across a stretch of plain before rolling so he could bust through a wall. He then rolled down a long tunnel, jumped over a spring that would have sent him backwards, and walked straight into a flying chameleon robot, causing him to lose all his rings. Moving on, he leapt past a spring that would have shoved him into an abyss, and hit a spring that sent him away from several ring boxes that he didn't notice until it was too late. Those boxes were now under a corkscrew spike bridge (You'll know what that is if you've played the game).
The spiky speedster ran behind a waterfall, and smashed through a wall. He then jumped another spike pit, and ran across a bridge into a more open area. There was nothing but two floating platforms, and some sort of capsule. Sonic went to investigate but…
"Now, now, Sonic" said a menacing voice "Don't you know you're not supposed to touch what isn't yours? I must admit I'm surprised to see you here. I wouldn't expect you to be much for the island life."
Sonic turned around to see a spherical hovercraft containing a short but large man, clad in red in yellow. His eyes were hidden by dark glasses, and his extravagant mustache was the only hair he had to speak of.
"Oh hey, Robotnik, fancy seeing you here, huh?" said Sonic "I didn't think you'd want to live on an island either. Then again, I guess you'll need somewhere to retire to when you get too old for this." Sonic laughed, knowing the mad genius wouldn't be doing that anytime soon.
"Stop laughing, punk." growled the doctor "This'll shut you up!"
A wrecking ball dropped out of the hovercraft and began swinging around. Sonic jumped onto a platform to avoid it, but it swung higher than he thought it would, and he lost all the rings he had been carrying. He dashed around to get some back before they all vanished
The doctor laughed "This should finish you."
Then Sonic jumped on the other platform and began jumping on Robotnik's hovercraft, putting in some good dents. Then he got hit again. With no rings, he got a few more hits on the hovercraft, and it started sparking.
"Oh come on" groaned Robotnik "I just cleaned this thing. And my update didn't work. Back to the drawing board." He flew off, trailing smoke behind him.
Back on the ground, Sonic went over to the capsule he had seen earlier. It was full of flickies. He popped a latch at the top, and it fell apart, freeing several flickies back into the hills.
Cool. Where to next?
In the distance, Sonic saw some old ruins, and something glowing.
Oh, yeahhh, now I remember.
And that's all the time we have, folks! Join us next week as we traverse through the next zone. I do hope you will all stick with this series as it grows (especially since it's going to go on for a long time). This is my first Fanfic, so please don't review too harshly, and please don't flame. Thank you so much for reading, and I hope you all will enjoy this epic journey!
