disclaimer: i don't own liar game.

a/n: yeah, i just discovered this spectacular manga, and i had to write something. hope you like this little thing.

he never really believed she'd break.

in his eyes, she was perfect. an angel, with unending hope, undying love, unwielding trust. no matter what they went through, she would never lose her faith in people.

she would never lose her smile, either.

and she's smiling now, too, but this time...this time, it's for an entirely different reason -

- "this is the liar game, isn't it, akiyama-san?"

her eyes are hard as stone and cold as ice, but even in the midst of his own pain, he can tell she's finally cracked.

they broke her, in the end. they won. despite his best efforts, he couldn't save her, and now all he's known of kanzaki nao is gone.

( should it make him feel better? maybe. )

but as much as the betrayal slices at his heart, her brokenness hurts even more.

he should've protected her.
he should've protected himself.

he should've known, dammit.

"akiyama-san..."

he hates himself because his breath catches at the sound of her voice anyway -

"you...lose."

he has.
