Ding dong!
The doorbell of Titans Tower ran.
Starfire opened it –as she gasped in shock over what she saw outside.
Standing in the doorway, lurking out in the darkness, was a huge, hideous, green monster. It was glaring down fiercely at her. He let off a thunderous roar, his horrible breath causing her red hair to wave about wildly.
Starfire squealed, then she leapt off her feet and took to the air – before beginning to attack.
"Get away, you horrible beast!" she yelled, blasting starbolts at the ugly creature. "You are not welcome at my home!"
The monster yelped in terror as he was struck by the starbolts fired from the young Tamaranean's hands. He was also hit by the eye-beams she blasted at him. Starfire was wildly using every one of her defensive powers against him. She didn't know who or what this monster was nor what he wanted, but she was determined to protect her home and her friends' against him.
As the monster was brutally attacked by the redhead, two of her fellow titans came running up.
"Starfire!" Robin cried. "What are you doing?!"
"I am defending our home, Robin, from this terrifying, grotesque monster!"
"That ain't no monster, Star!" Cyborg yelled, his infrared eye wide as he gaped at the provoked princess. "That's just a kid in costume for Halloween!"
Starfire froze. Her fierce expression faded from her face to be replaced by a puzzled look. She ceased her attacks on the visitor, gazing at her friends.
"It is…not a threat?"
"No, Star. Every year we go through this." Robin facepalmed. "All the scary things you see at this time of the year are just kids dressed up. They're not real monsters."
Looking sheepish, Starfire gazed where the monster was laying on the ground in agony, an apologetic smile on her face as she lowered herself down from the air.
"I am sorry, friend. I am not used to the custom of dressing up as monsters on this one night of the year. Your outfit is most convincing."
Starfire waved bashfully as she retreated back into the tower, leaving Robin and Cyborg with the one she had just beaten up.
"You'll have to forgive her," Robin said. "She's not from around here and she still has much to learn about our ways on Earth."
"Cool costume, though, man! You actually look like a real monster!" Cyborg gave a thumbs-up with his robotic hand. "You have yourself a happy Halloween!"
Cyborg closed the door before following Robin back to the couch to continue the scary movie they were watching on TV.
Crumpled up in pain on the doorstep to Titans Tower, the green monster groaned – as he transformed into his regular appearance, which was filled with bruises.
"I can't believe it!" he complained as he picked himself up. "I do a bit of trick-or-treating at my own home – and my friend beats me up! How did Star not realise it was me?"
"I dunno why you even bothered transforming yourself into a monster for Halloween…"
The young shapeshifter looked around to find Raven joining him on the doorstep, speaking to him in her usual dry, sarcastic tone.
"With a face like yours, you'd scare anyone, Beast Boy!"
The end.
