Mark walks slowly over to the nightstand where his phone was persistently ringing dispite the two minutes almost that it took him to decide to reluctantly go pick it up.
Who-ever it was wasn't gonna not get a answer.
"Hello"
"Hey...."
Mark rolls his eyes with aggravation and a loud venomous voice speaks "What do you want?". He asks.
"I just wanted to call and tell you I love you....."
"Where was this LOVE a few weeks ago HUH?".
Mark waits for a reply, taking a sip from his beer, He listens intently.
He hears a slow breath and a drained voice comes through the line "I .... I .... I made mistakes but so have you, I'm trying to make up for those mistakes, I'm trying to do it right. I'm sorry...... Can't you see that, Don't you know that I'm sorry".
Mark is taken back and has to take a few seconds to gather his feelings which to say the least where begining to come undone.
"Hello, Are you still there Mark!"
"......Yeah" He yells
"Oh good, I thought I'd lost you".
Mark wanted to say you had but he kept it to himself.
For a long couple seconds there was nothing spoken.
"Well Look I gotta go, I got things to do".
"Well Can I call you later, Maybe tomorrow sometime".
"No!...." Mark regreted speaking it out so fast but He didn't need to string this out any longer, It had to be done, Has to be over with. Finished with and Mark couldn't keep from saying the truth. They were and wouldn't be a couple ever again or atleast not for a long time.
"...Oh"
"Yeah..... I'm sorry But,
"BUT WHAT, Your gonna leave me when I'm down, When I have no - one!, NO ONE BUT YOU AND NOW HERE YOU ARE LEAVING ME. I'll HAVE NO ONE IF YOU LEAVE. I'll be all alone, ........ You know how I get when I'm all alone".
Mark knew this wouldn't be easy, Knew how he'd take it, react towards it. He was trying to get to my feelings and use them against me.
It wasn't gonna work.
"Go to Shannon's house". I said knowing full well what he'd do but not wanted to fall in his scam.
"He's not home and besides He wouldn't want to see me, or deal with my shit. We're not even freinds anymore really... Only you, There's only you ........ "
Mark can hear his shaky laughter through the speaker.
"Remember when we said we'd take on the world together, You said it'd just be me and you and then there was everybody else, We didin't need no one but each other, Remember that Do you?".
Mark stares aimlessly at the wall "Yeah .... I remember".
"Yeah those days were great...".
"It's over bewteen us I have nothing more I wanna say to you, And I don't wanna hear you reminisce about old times that are dead and gone and ain't never coming back".
I know I was mean, More the mean Just cold but I was tired of hearing him, I just wanted to get off the phone so I could be alone and cry myself to drink myself silly.
I could hear him crying, I could see him wiping the tears of his face like I was standing right in front of him.
"Fine.... Then........ Goodby..... Forever".
Mark hears his hiccuping words being spoken drowned out by his crying but couldn't speak up, He had come this far by ending it, He couldn't turn back not now.
He listens sitting with the phone by his ear Unable to hang up even now when it was just him still on the line.
He softly speaks one last thing before hanging up and heading to bed.
"I'm sorry, I really hope you don't do something stupid tonight. I did and still do love you , Always will Jeff but I just couldn't live with you. Not any longer".
