One Penny Sterling
Find a penny, pick it up, all day long you'll have good luck.
~Nursery Rhyme/ Unknown
Seamus Finnigan watched as she skipped and twirled through the rain that was lightly falling from the clouded skies above. It amazed him, how she could be so carefree and happy in an environment that screamed depressions with every splat of water on the pavement. Yet there she was, laughing and twirling through the oppressive clouds. It almost made him want to smile.
When he had met the high energy girl a few weeks ago in the bar he had honestly thought that she was just another thing to add to his growing list of experiences brought on because of his terrible luck. Then she had promised to help him –a complete stranger- and he began to wonder if his luck might be changing. Surely it couldn't be anything but good luck that brought her into his life.
And now he believed it even more.
Suddenly, Lucy stopped twirling and squatted down on the sidewalk. Seamus, who hadn't been paying much attention to the area directly in front of him, found himself tripping over the girl, knocking them both over in the process.
Then again…
Seamus quickly righted himself and turned to help Lucy, but she seemed to be just fine. She had returned to her previous position, staring intently at something on the pavement in front of her.
"Are you ok, Lucy?" he asked, worried she may have knocked her head when he bumped into her. Silence passed between the two for a moment before Lucy spoke, completely ignoring his previous question, which worried Seamus even more.
"I'm fantastic! Just found a lucky penny!" she exclaimed, shoving something small and bronze in his face.
"A what?" Seamus inquired. Her words had stirred something in his mind, but he wasn't entirely sure what.
"Find a penny, pick it up, all day long you'll have good luck," she recited in a sing-song voice, handing over the object in her hand, "though of course, everyone knows that the only way to have luck is to share it with someone." Seamus looked down at the small object now in the palm of his hand.
For all intense and purposes the coin was nearly worthless -it's value was only one penny sterling, or a one hundredth of a pound- and it was muggle currency at that. Seamus rarely visited muggle areas, preferring the wizarding shops and restaurants. Yet he willingly accepted it. As soon as Lucy said it was lucky, he had wanted it. He would take anything to change his luck.
With a smile, imaging the turn of events his life could possibly take now, Seamus slipped the coin into his pocket and continued on down the street with the once again twirling and skipping Lucy.
The End
A/N: I know it's short, but it's was all the combination of my imagination, my busy schedule, and my lack of sleep could come up with. Hope you liked it anyway! Letting me know is much appreciated!
