AN: Happy Niff week! this is seriously thee most angsty kid!niff ever. Hope you like it!

TRIGGER WARNING!

It was one of those unwritten rules of friendship; you never asked about each other's scars. If there was a cool story behind them, they would tell you. If not, you didn't pester about it.

So when Nick walked into Ms. Rose's 3rd grade class with a black eye and offered up a weak explanation about a game of baseball gone wrong, Jeff just nodded along, even though his 9 year old brain had come up with a much more plausible theory about what happened that involved Nick's dad, who seemed really scary.

Or when Jeff showed up at Nick's door in 6th grade with bruises all over his chest, and Nick decided to put some ice on him first and worry about the bullies who had been terrorizing Jeff later.

And in 8th grade, when the tangles of lines started appearing on Nick's arms, Jeff stayed quiet as he desperately tried to figure out something, anything, he could do to make Nick better and stop it.

But he didn't say anything. He never said anything. Because best friends didn't ask about each others scars, right?
