Naruto and Sasuke are deities of a religion known as Heiwa. These once revered and peaceful figures of morality and emotional balance are now being used as pawns in a struggle for power. How does this affect the deities, their way of life, and their ability to follow the path they were meant to lead? Romance, slash, yaoi, AU, violence, Buddhism-esque religion, NaruSasu

This is a quick background info introduction to set up te story. Hopefully, it peaks your interest and you'd like for me to continue.

Heiwa

Naruto and Sasuke are deities of a religion called Heiwa. Their world is a shinobi based alternative universe split into two lands separated by the sea with a neutral land in between. The entire world is called Tengoku, the side Naruto lives on being Kanjo, the side Sasuke lives on being Dotoku, the center neutral land being Baransu. The basics of the religion follow closely to Buddhism (basically being Buddhism) with the basic; 1) Live a moral life, 2) Be mindful of thoughts and actions, 3) Develop wisdom and understanding. It follows the Four Noble Truths of the world; 1) Life is suffering, 2) Suffering is caused by arrogance and ignorance, 3) Suffering can be overcome, 4) The 8-Fold Path ends suffering. The 8-Fold Path is having the right; 1) Understanding, 2) Concentration, 3) Effort, 4) Mindfulness, 5) Thought, 6) Speech, 7) Action, 8) Livelihood. It follows the 5 Precepts; 1) Not to kill, 2) Not to take handouts, 3) Don't overindulge in lust, 4) Don't lie, 5) Don't drink or do drugs (keep yourself as mindful and aware as is natural [which is why we meditate]).

Kanjo is a land of water and sand (similar to Whirlpool in Canon Naruto). Naruto is revered as a deity of the people, kept among the common folk and humble, very true to the Buddhist nature. He lives with monks in a shrine but is allowed out into the people, sparring and interacting amongst them as a normal child. He is as his normal canon self, looking exactly the same. The catch being that should he deter from the teachings of Heiwa, he becomes the Nine-Tailed-Fox or Akagitsune in this story until he repents. His goal is to become a Sage, which is the highest form of monk and the goal of any deity before they pass into Baransu which is the final resting place for deities when they reach Sage level.

Kanjo's main governing body and its leaders are the Mitsukage and the lower Senju Council.

Dotoku is a land of forest and caves. Sasuke is a deity as well. However, he is considered above his people and is raised away from them in a temple. He becomes his Canon Cursed Seal form should he deter from the teachings of Heiwa, this form being called Kura Kemono.

Dotoku's main governing body and its leaders are the Kuraikage and the lower Uchiha Council.

The two lands are normally at peace, ignoring the other and simply trying to raise their deities as to not anger the past deities on Baransu. However, a movement in each land has been to increase the amount of shinobi. This has created tension between the two lands and put pressure from the governing bodies over the temples upon the deities to become Sage level quickly but not for transcendence and rather for power struggle.

This has led to whispers of war..

Will the deities allow themselves to be manipulated and held back from their peaceful existence? How does this affect the monks and their way of life? What secrets do the Mitsukage and Kuraikage keep hidden? And, as per usual, can there possibly be love for two deities used as simple pieces in a chessboard of power?
