This is a complete remake of my 2017 attempt at the Smaug/Saphira story. Back then, I was just new to the writing part but it has been two years so hopefully I've matured enough to be able to write Smaug's character. If anyone wants to help me in writing Smaug's attitude and personality, PM me, I would appreciate assistance.
Now, the first chapter will take place with Smaug's final day in Middle-Earth, but with a twist to suit the story. Also, Smaug will have four legs instead of two back legs and using his wings as front legs. Besides, he is described in the book as a dragon with four legs. Think of the 2013 dragon with four legs instead of two, like the common dragons you'd see in movies like Dragonheart, Eragon, you get the picture.
Let's begin.
Flying over the ruined and destroyed city of Dale was a creature, a large, magnificent creature that is the superior master of the skies as is the rest of his species. His species being that of a dragon. This dragon was a terrifying and magnificent sight to behold. Dark red scales all over his body with a golden underbelly, four limbs with two front paws and two hind legs. A long, serpentine neck, large wingspan, a long tail like a lightning bolt, fiery orange eyes set in a raging glare, like fire in eyes.
This dragon was SMAUG! The King under the Mountain! The conqueror of Dale, and soon...will be the conquer of Lake-town. Why was he flying towards Lake-Town with the intent on burning it? Well, it had to do with the dwarves and thief that trespassed in his mountain, including Thorin Oakenshield. The filthy dwarvish usurper.
He had come back to Erebor after 60 years...for the Arkenstone.
Smaug didn't plan on just giving up his gold and the mountain, Smaug toyed with the thief Oakenshield sent in, then decided to cease his little game and kill the small creature but it evaded him. Afterwards it was a game of cat and mouse, or dragon and dwarf so to speak, Smaug chased the dwarves to the forges then confronted Oakenshield in the Gallery of the Kings where the dwarf runt proclaimed they were getting their revenge... Smaug could still remember his last words to the dwarf as he burst out of the golden liquid.
"REVENGE?! REVENGE?! I WILL SHOW YOU REVENGE!"
And he will...by having Lake-Town pay for assisting the dwarves just so they can get the dragon's gold. The crimson red-scaled dragon flew over Lake-Town, circling it, installing fear into the residents as he passed over it before flying into the air, then coming back down...but this time his chest glowed.
With a roar, fire was unleashed from Smaug's mouth and destroyed a few buildings. The red dragon flew around in the air for another pass and unleashed more fire on the town of men. The night sky glowed with the flames destroying Lake-Town, Smaug smashed through buildings in a straight line, using his tail like a whip to destroy any buildings he missed. Seeing the town completely ablazed, and now wanting to deal with the one who had been shooting arrows at him, Smaug landed in the destroyed town and turned his gaze to the man on a destroyed tower.
"Who are you that would stand against me?" Smaug hissed with a glare at the man who holds up a broken bow, causing Smaug to smirk mockingly. "Now that is a pity. What will you do now...bowman?" You are forsaken. No help will come." As a building got crushed underneath the weight of his right paw, the dragon saw something that made his tongue slither out like a snake. "Is that your child? You cannot save him from the fire. He. Will. BURN!"
Smaug drew nearer and nearer, smirking all the while as he spoke again. "Tell me, wretch. How now shall you challenge me? You have nothing left...but your DEATH!" With a roar, Smaug charged towards the tower just as the Bowman released an arrow.
A Black Arrow. The only arrow tough enough to Pierce a dragon's hide.
The arrow landed straight into where the missing scale was, not deep enough to kill him but it feels like it. Smaug's eyes widened as he roared in agony, flying past the power and smashing straight through buildings, his tail also smashing the Master of Lake-Town as he tried to escape.
The crimson red dragon groaned in pain as he flew into the air. He looked at where the arrow was and knew he couldn't continue his attack, so he flew away from Lake-Town, smashing into a few nearby hills as he desperately crawled away. He had to find somewhere safe and rip this arrow out, find another place to heal his wound...then return to take back what was his. Smaug growled as he flew higher into the airs flying either and further away.
The people will think he will die of his wound, the fools.
However, Smaug's recovery journey will take him to another land he hasn't heard of...Alagaësia.
And that's it for the first chapter. Instead of the arrow fully killing Smaug, it just got near his heart but still pierced his hide so he had to fly away to get it out and recover. Smaug's not stupid enough to resume his attack after an arrow just pierced his hide and nearly stuck his heart.
By the way, has anyone thought of doing a Smaug/Daenerys Targaryen story with how there seems to be a few videos of the two together getting posted? I may do one but I'll need ideas for that.
Also, I need ideas on where abouts in the Inheritance story Smaug can appear? He will be in the first book but it's when that I am conflicted on.
Have him be found when Eragon and Saphira first meet Ajihad at the Varden or have him meet Eragon, Brom, and Saphira a lot earlier? I'm leaning towards the former but would like to hear your opinions in the reviews.
