Sarah stared at the Goblin King in his final pitch for her love. His white cape billowing behind on a silent wind. A million thoughts cascaded through her mind. The night's events replaying themselves. Their dance within a crystal ballroom stood out more so than any other. Some of what had occured left questions unanswered. It was also so hard to concentrate with him so close, but she had to finish what had been started. She heard him uttering his final lines.

"Fear me, love me, do as I say, and I will be your slave," his smooth full lips finishing their plea.

It was her turn. She had to say what must be said, complete the circle. It was difficult, she couldn't focus on the words she was meant to say. She looked into his eyes trying to complete the thought. She just could not remember what she must say next. She felt his hold on her growing stronger. Finally her sanity returned, with it the right words presented themselves to her confused mind.

She looked at him, his outstretched crystal held aloft trying to show her her dreams. Looking straight into his eyes she began to say the words to finish the confrontation.

"You have no...," she stared at him, seeing the distress in his uneven eyes. "Wait."

He, who had looked so defeated moments ago, lit with hope,"Wait?"

"Yes, wait," she took a step towards him. "What did you mean when you said you couldn't live within me?"

He looked at her jade green eyes trying to figure out her new tactic, what else could she try to obtain from him. She had already stolen his heart. What else did she want?

"My presence cannot exist within your unwilling heart," he ran his hand up her arm. "I am just like anyone else in this manner Sarah. If you do not want me in your life I cannot be there. Love does not live in those who do not wish it to be there."

She looked at him painfully confused. She wasn't quite sure she wanted him gone entirely, but didn't like the idea of being someone's property.

"Maybe we can come to a compromise," Sarah said softly.

"Anything you want," Jareth was thrilled, he couldn't believe what she was saying what he had been hoping to hear.

"Toby goes home," she began.

"Of course," he interrupted.

"Hoggle, Ludo, and Sir Didimus won't be punished," she continued.

"Well," he hesitated. Seeing the glare in her eyes he relented. "Okay."

"I can go visit my family anytime I want," she finished, knowing this would either make or break the deal.

"Anytime," he repeated his eyes softening. He smiled at her easy requests, he would have given anything to keep her and this was all she asked.

She looked at him, was it really this easy? Had they went through so much confrontation to such an easy end? She continued to stare at him, the longer she looked the less he looked like the villian, he had changed. Maybe it was her perception of him that had changed. She had no question of his love, she could see it in his eyes. She could stay with him an eternity and never tire of the look he was giving her. His smile cinched the answer in her heart and she hoped what she had chosen would never cause her regret.
