Just a cute little drabble. Hasn't been beta'd (hint hint), but I don't think I made any huge mistakes.
It was a slow day in the Vegas crime lab, and Sara Sidle was bored. It was Warrick's day off, and Catherine had left shift early to go to Lindsay's dance recital, so she walked into Grissom's office and sat down.
"Hey, Giss. What're you doing?"
"I think Nick and Greg are dating."
Sara nearly choked on the sip of coffee she had just taken. "What?"
"I think they're dating. Haven't you noticed?"
"No!"
"Come with me."
Grissom stood and lead her to the A/V lab. Archie was on break, so they had a perfect view of the DNA lab--and Nick and Greg in it.
"What's Nick doing in there?" Sara asked, surprised. "I thought he closed his case already."
"He did. Watch."
There wasn't much to watch, in Sara's opinion. Greg was looking at something under a microscope, flicking through various books and looking for a match. Nick was leaning against a counter, chatting. Greg straightened, gesturing to the microscope. Nick shrugged, going over and looking into it.
"What am I supposed to be watching?"
"You still can't see it? Look--see Greg's posture? He's orientating himself around Nick." Nick stood suddenly, moving away from the microscope, and Greg turned just a little bit so he was still facing him. "Notice how they keep finding ways to touch each other--casually, but possessively."
Sara was unconvinced. So what if Nick patted Greg's shoulder or Greg shoved him playfully in response to a joke? Nick and Warrick touched each other in similar ways, and they were best friends.
"And see how focused Greg is? Greg doesn't look at people when they're looking at him, not with that kind of attention. He only watches people when they are looking away. When people are watching him, he tends to glance at them quickly, then look around the room or do something else. He's still staring at Nick."
"Grissom, I don't see how--"
Then she almost choked, cutting herself off.
"Told you," Grissom said smugly.
(-(-)-)
Greg was surprised to feel Nick's soft lips pressing against his own--in the middle of the lab, no less--but it took him a few seconds to react.
"Careful, Stokes," he said with a grin, eyes flashing mischievously. "What happened to cool and professional?"
Nick grinned in return. "Oops."
"Yeah. Oops. Imagine if Grissom walked in on us like that? He'd probably have a heart attack." They both laughed, picturing his face. Then there was a thud, and they looked over to see Sara in the door, smiling forcibly.
"Hey guys."
"Hey, Sara. What's going on?"
"Nothing, just wanted to … you know, say hi. Anything new with you?"
"No," Greg said, confused.
"Same old, same old," Nick confirmed with a shrug.
"Oh. Oh … good." She stood there for one more minute, then rushed out.
"What's her problem?"
"No idea."
