The Life without Cancer Perks (An Alternative Path)

Life was as normal as ever. I, Hazel Grace, live in fear of dying any day. I met Augustus Waters a while back in the cancer support group. I, myself is suffering from lung cancer while Augustus Waters is suffering from osteosarcoma.

"Hazel Grace, want to come to my house and watch a movie with me?" Augustus asked.

"What is it?"

"Counterinsurgency"

"Sure, why not?"

"We'll have to walk there since the cancer perks were turned illegal last week," Augustus sighed.

"Well, I'm pretty sure it's for the best." I said trying not to recall what happened when Augustus drove the car last time.

"I actually failed my driver's test three times, so I don't really earn it," Augustus said trying to brighten up.

"You don't say."

We finally reached Augustus's house. We took the bus there and arrived an hour later than we would have usually took if we drove by ourselves. We entered the house and was greeted by his mother and father.

"Let me introduce my friend to you, this is Hazel Grace, a classmate from the cancer support center," Augustus explained. "I invited her to watch Counterinsurgency with me."

"Excuse me," I interrupted. "Sorry, but I didn't notice the time, with the cancer perks that were turned illegal, it'll take an extra hour to get here and return home. Sorry that we didn't get to hang out as often," with that, I exited the house and went on my voyage home.
