I could tell by how distant his eyes were that this would not be pleasant. They were no longer the melting topaz colour that I was used to, but hard and cold, almost stone-like. I couldn't exactly tell what it was about them that brought chills to me. I almost had to run to keep up with him, when he was the one who usually tried to match my pace. He abruptly turned around, almost making me run into him, and took a step back. His face was expressionless, and his beautiful eyes were now dead. There was no emotion behind them, no life. He refused to make eye contact with me, merely staring at the dead leaves on the ground. I glanced around. The leaves were past the beautiful shades of red and orange, now taking on a dark burgundy, almost brown. Everything was dying. The thick forest we were in stifled the noise outside of our own world. This moment seemed to last forever, and in the worst way possible. As I looked back towards his face, I realized that he was talking. His pale lips were moving slowly, and I couldn't pick up what he was saying. My ears focused in on what was being said, and suddenly my breath caught.
I was laying on the damp earth, my mind numb but my heart breaking. His words were ringing in my ears, and with each one his voice was fading away.
I don't want you.
I don't want you.
I don't want you.
Four words. That's all it takes to break someone. That's all it took to leave me collapsed on the ground, alone. Those were the words that brought me to my worst.
