"Okay, so what is Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration?" Severus Snape asked Lily Evans.
They were sitting under a large tree close to the lake, trying to study for their O.W.Ls. Well, at least Severus was.
"Lily? You in there?" Severus asked, clicking his fingers in front of her face.
"Huh? Oh, yeah, right." Lily sputtered, "Sorry."
"I thought you wanted me to help you study?"
"I… I do. I'm just… a bit distracted, that's all." Lily said, plucking blades of grass from the earth.
"With?" Severus had a feeling he already knew what, but hoped it would be something else, a bad grade, a missed class, anything else really.
"Well… It's Chase." Lily said, Severus frowned, Lily continued, "I just… We've been kind of dating for a while now, and I think he may try to… To kiss me."
Severus tried to mask his jealousy, "Is that a problem?"
Lily bit her lip, "No, I guess not, but the thing is…" Lily turned bright red, "I… I don't know how to kiss."
"It doesn't really matter. Whenever it happens, you'll know what to do." Severus said, skimming through his notes, "Can we get back to studying?"
"But what if I don't? What if I don't know how and then he'll think I'm a freak and never speak to me again." Lily asked,
"That won't happen."
"But what if it does, Sev? And then he'll tell everyone and –"
"Lily,"
"I'll never date another boy ever again. I'll –"
"Lily,"
"Be alone for the rest of my life. I'll be –"
"LILY!"
Lily stopped; Severus sighed a breath of relief.
"Nothing like that will ever happen. Ever." He said.
"But you don't know that, Severus!" Lily continued, "I mean, honestly, in that kind of situation…"
Severus buried his head in his arms and listened to Lily's rant about how her life was as good as over for what felt like hours; Long, painful, boring hours. He finally felt as if his head was going to explode if she said another word. He grabbed either side of her face and kissed her full on the lips. Lily was frozen in shock for a few moments, but just as Severus had told her, she somehow knew exactly how to kiss.
Severus pulled back and smiled, "I told you so."
