Note: I was listening to this song and I couldn't stop thinking of Elphie and Yero. This is a revised version of my once song fic "I'll Be."

The Greatest Fan of Your Life

A Wicked Fan Fiction

By: DaggerQuill

He had seen it in her eyes. The same dizzying mixture of emotion he had been unable to shake after they had parted with their first touch. He had seen her guard drop with her expression of fear and longing. He knew they both had to regain oxygen after the simple touch.

He had been walking in through cool night for almost an hour. The city seamed to be winking its jeweled magnificence at him in the setting sun, trying to tell him its story. He did not know the history of the precious stones ripped from the mines of Gilkkus, or the wars over those lands, the siege of the city by a man in a balloon.

He only knew he would see her again.

She told him she was going to disappear, one day be gone in a puff of smoke.

He hated this remark. It made him see he had no purpose left in the city. Reminded him he had a home to return to. He missed his children greatly, yet he couldn't imagine going back to his home where the love was forced and cold.

He waited for the day she asked him to disappear with her.

They saw the flash of lightening and heard the rain pounding on the roof above them. She shivered under the threadbare blankets that covered them. Her black rose covered scarf laying forgotten on the floor.

He gently held her, whispering tribal lullabies into her ear. He wiped burning tears from her eyes, trying to erase thoughts of her certain death falling from above. "I love you" she whispered again and again as she held him tightly. He responded by gently kissing her trembling lips.

But in her way, she was hiding from him, because she loved him, because she did not want the dangers of her new life hurting the ones she held dear. Yet he had found her and refused to let her go. She watched his every motion, his work worn hands, his expressions of concern, lust, joy, love. She had memorized each blue diamond on his dark skin.

At times she didn't think it could be true. That he was here... with her, that for once in her life the person she loved did not suffer.

He was her redemption.

On Lurlinemas Eve she reminded herself that he had promised to keep himself safe.

She knew he had lied.

She knew he was here, In the same square. Watching her commit the crime she had made her life work. She wanted him to run to her, to hold her back. She wanted for him to tell her to forget all of this. Instead of her secrets, his family, they could forget obligation and have each other.

She had missed her target.

But he was in no condition to stop her.

A sharp pain before the numbness. Then all she knew was the blues of burning sulfur and the depths of the mythical sea.

Forgiveness... no, the girl could not have asked for forgiveness.

She felt someone cradling her gently in their arms.
"Are we in the other world?" She whispered to her protector.
"You don't believe in the other world."
"Fiyero..." She slowly opened her eyes.
"Yes, my Elphaba, this is the other world. Welcome home."
He leaned down to kiss her as a painless tear of joy, relief, slipped down her cheek.
