After a month, Derek can't take it anymore. He sees her everywhere. She's everywhere, and she's the wrong woman. She's the one person that watches all his surgeries from the beginning to the end every time she can, the one who leaves a cup of cappuccino on his desk in the mornings. The one who doesn't care if a piece of paper says they're divorced, because she thinks they're still married at least in her heart and memories. And as time passes, Derek realizes he's starting to feel that too.
Meredith is annoying, 'cause she doesn't act like a real girlfriend. She isn't everywhere, and she doesn't offer him juju. She doesn't even know what juju is. Meredith hasn't got red hair or high-heeled shoes, and she doesn't like Russel Crowe. She doesn't wait for him to say 'it's a beautiful day to save lives, let's have some fun', because she doesn't know the reason he says it before each surgery he performs.
Eventually, Derek admits to himself that all these things aren't things that a girlfriend does. These are the things that Addison did when they were married and that for some reason still does. And it's confusing him. A lot. Like, he can't take it anymore. He absolutely has to do something.
"Stop being everywhere."
And she does. She does stop, and all of a sudden Meredith is the only one in his life. He wakes up in the morning next to her, he has breakfast with her. Most of the times, they get to the hospital together. She's there at the end of his shift, and she's there when he's tired and would really need juju. But Meredith doesn't know what juju is.
Addison now isn't there for his surgeries, not even the difficult ones. She doesn't give him cappuccinos and she doesn't smile at him when she thinks he isn't looking.
And he doesn't like it. He doesn't like it one bit. So, he decides he absolutely has to do something.
"I got you come juju."
It quickly becomes a routine. He gives her juju every morning as soon as she gets to work. She gives him juju every evening before he meets Meredith at the entrance to go home.
"I miss you."
He told her he missed her, so now she's back everywhere. Like, in his dreams and fantasies and Christmas wishes. Yeah, he actually hopes to have her back for good as a Christmas present. It would be the best Christmas present ever. He finds himself reading every patient's chart to look at her handwriting. He always said she had a beautiful handwriting. He also discovers that he doesn't like the trailer anymore. So he sells it. He soon realizes it was quite a stupid thing though, because he dumped Meredith and now he has nowhere to live. So he goes to the one person he considered to be the love of his life. She's the one he'd pretend to like music he doesn't like for. She's the one he'd leave the last piece of cheesecake to. She's the one he'd hold a radio over his head outside her window for.
"I love you."
She's the one who he shouldn't have let go. The one he doesn't want to ever let go again.
"I love you too."
She's the One.
A/N: Yes, I kinda used Meredith's 'pick me, choose me, love me' speech. Hope it didn't suck.
