Tomb Raider – Turning Point chapter 1
This is a story about if Lara pulled Excalibur out in Legend and went to the same place Amelia did (her mother). Spoilers for Legend and Underworld. It's going to be in a series (this chapter is short though) and it's from Lara's point of view. Also the reason I don't call the 'lava' Eitr is because I don't think Lara knows it yet and I want to do it in her point of view (what she knows, what she doesn't know). I don't own any of the characters (Lara, Amelia, Amanda) or the places (Helheim/Avalon).
"It will explode unless you pull out the sword!" Amanda shouts at me. I'm busy staring at the faint outline of my mother.
"No!" I shout back at her. That's when I think: what actually happened to my mother? I never saw her body. I pull Excalibur out quickly and a ray of light hits me. As I disappear, Amanda screams:
"Take me with you!"
I fall face first into blue lava. I scream as my face dissolves. I try to move, to roll over, anything but I can't. Someone grabs my arms and pulls me up. Cautiously, I step out of the small pool of lava. A deformed faces stares at me. It's got my mother's hair and clothes. I jump back, nearly back into the lava. She opens her arms, looking like she wants a hug.
"You're not my mother, I pause. "How did you get like that?" I ask, fearing that her human side has gone. She looks around and walks over to the other side of the room. I notice she's limping and her leg is showing a lot of bone. One side of her must have hit the lava. If she is still human, how did she survive here? I go over to her and see what she's looking at. A puddle of normal water on the floor. I look into it and see my reflection. My face is like hers. A lot of my skin has come off in chunks, my eyes have dark rings around them and are bleeding… I look like a zombie. I cough and notice my throat getting sore. I look up at her and she nods. I finally focus on what's around us. There's a waterfall of the blue lava near us and red glowing patterns on the walls. She was here for years.
"It's my fault." I mutter, my throat straining just saying that. Mother shakes her head and puts one of her frail hands on my shoulder.
"I… love… you…" She struggles to say, her voice cracking and groaning. It's time to accept that this dying zombie is my mother and she still loves me.
