What Are You Eating
Mt. Justice
The team had just returned from a hard mission, and it was disasterous, heavy on the DIS. The mission was supposed to be a reconnaissance mission, but as usual it turned into a battle for their lives. They were also sent to retrieve files and that's what Cardinal was going through the files that she and her brother, Robin, had retrieved. She had a small, waist high table with a plate of something on it.
The resident speedster, Kid Flash decided he wanted to know what his 'sister' was doing. He didn't use his super speed, but wanted to try sneaking up behind her. That didn't work out so well as a fireball came right at him.
"What do you want, Wally?" Cardinal asked, not taking her masked eyes off of the large holo screen in front of her.
"Kinda curious about what you're snacking on." Wally said, noticing what was on the plate.
"It's something Alfred taught me; Peanut Butter and Bananas. The tastes are good alone, but together it's great." Cardinal said, knowing that it would drive Wally crazy that he didn't know.
"Can I…." Wally started.
"Just take a small scoop of the peanut butter, and put it on the banana. Try to get the peanut butter to hit your tongue first." Cardinal said, and that's when her old friend followed her directions.
Wally was curious as to what he was going to taste with the two items combine but it wasn't long before he knew as he popped the PB covered banana in his mouth.
"Wow, this is good. Tell Alfred I like it." Wally said and with that he headed to the kitchen to get a plate of his own.
Cardinal couldn't help but smile as she thought about the story Alfred told her as he made the snack in front of her three years ago.
Wayne Manor Kitchen
Dick had been home sick from school, but Reiena had just arrived home. Alfred always made them a snack but when either child was the only one to return home from school (the other being home sick), Alfred made a special treat. Today, Reiena had made it home early after getting a ride with Barbara Gordon. She came into the kitchen quietly, but not quietly enough to get past Alfred's defenses.
"Good afternoon, Miss Reiena; how was school today?" Alfred said as Reiena started to get close to the table.
"Huge test today, but I think I aced it. Alfred, may I ask you something?" Reiena said as she stopped being quiet and sat in her usual chair.
"Go ahead, Miss." Alfred said, not moving from the counter where he was preparing her snack.
"How did you ever learn about combining Peanut Butter and bananas into a snack like you do?" Reiena inquired.
"Ah, a wonderful story indeed. You see, my mother would make this exact snack for me when I was in school over in England. When she passed, I didn't make it myself for at least 20 years, but then when I had to take over as Master Bruce's father figure; I made the snack and he was in love with it."
"So, a recipe your mother made, that makes it even more special that you would share it with me and Dick. Thank you for telling me Alfred." Reiena said as the long time butler and father figure to Bruce Wayne set the plate on the table.
Present Time
After Wally headed to his room away from home with his newly discovered treat, Cardinal smiled and a single tear came from under her mask. Alfred was still with them, but thinking about the story behind her current snack made her miss her mother even more.
I wish to explain my reasons behind this. My grandmother loved eating peanut butter and banana. It's just a sliced banana that you somewhat dip in peanut butter. I haven't eaten it in 15 years, since the loss of my grandmother, and I still remember the taste.
