Lonestar - Norah Jones
Kohaku - Post-Wish Pre-Kobato
As she sat on the porch of Shuuichirou's house, Kohaku stared up at the stars, the darkness in her heart threatening to match the darkness of the night. She was unused to sadness, but it seemed it would overwhelm her tonight. She searched the sky, scanning the stars for that one star, his star; the lonestar. She thought to herself, 'if only I could just find that star, then I could be okay for tonight.'
Earlier that day, she had lost him for the second time. It had been a shock, just like the first time. He was gone. Kohaku didn't know how long she would have to wait for him to come back for her. Months, years? Her heart fluttered weakly as she thought of the time she would spend without him, the long nights alone, days without the hope of his coming home in the afternoon.
Her amber eyes began to fill with unstoppable tears she she searched the sky desperately, trying to find the lonestar, Shuuichirou's star. He had shown her one night, the star his grandfather had bought him as a birthday gift. A strange gift, but it seemed right for the quiet teenaged boy at the time. Hours passed as she watched, the night growing darker around her. Kohaku feared that she would not be able to recognise the star, that she had forgotten which one it was and she would always be looking for something which was right in front of her. More tears fell as she felt the same fear echo through her about Shuuichirou. What if she didn't see him until it was too late? Would she be able to find him again?
As she looked up at the stars she thought of God and Heaven. She prayed for the lonestar's appearance and the safe return of Shuuichirou's soul. She wondered if she had made the right sacrifice, whether God would one day decide she had suffered enough and have mercy on her. Maybe let her die along with her lover, or let him live with her.
Kohaku sighed in relief as she finally found the star, it's light seeming to glow brighter than any other star and she wondered how she had missed it before. She knew that she would sacrifice anything for Shuuichirou to be with her, even if it meant losing him over and over again. She loved him and everything that was Shuuichirou and, if she had the chance, she would do it all again.
The lonestar seemed to smile down on her as she began to sing her sorrow and hope filled song to the night.

I'm always dismayed at the lack of Wish stories about Kohaku and Shuuichirou. Hopefully this will even things out. Poor little Kohaku. If you enjoyed this one keep an eye out for my other song stories. Thankyou~!
