Booth had been replaying their conversation with the ridiculous, twelve-year old psychiatrist over and over in his head while he took a drive to help clear his head. For a second during the "session" he had been shocked and dismayed to hear Brennan say that she wouldn't even have coffee with him if they didn't have any more murders to solve.
The more he thought about it the more he couldn't see himself without Bones in his life…without HIS Bones in his life. And before he knew what he was doing he had arrived in front of her apartment building.

Temperance Brennan was sitting with a cup of coffee on her couch concentrating on the latest case, wait…correct that…trying to concentrate on the latest case. But a certain FBI agent, and his hurt expression after hearing her say she wouldn't associate with him if they didn't have crimes to solve together, kept popping into her mind.
It was just a misunderstanding, and she knew he knew that, (or at least she hoped he knew that). But his lost puppy look made her smile every time she thought about it.
As she was about to give up and go to bed a knock sounded on her door, and who should be standing there but the lost puppy himself.
"Booth! Did you find something on the case?" Brennan asked not knowing what to think of this impromptu visit.
"So that is our whole relationship, huh? Just work?" Booth responded. Brennan looked taken aback at Booth's hurt and slightly defensive tone.
"No! It's just, I don't see any other logical reason for you to show up here at…" she glanced at the clock on her wall, "almost 1am."
"Well, maybe I want to have a reason to show up at your door any time I want." Booth said. He knew he was throwing caution to the wind and possibly losing his friendship with his partner, but something had snapped inside him at the thought of not seeing Bones everyday.
"What?" asked Brennan, utterly confused.
"I don't want our relationship to be just coffee." Stated Booth, steeping forward towards Bones… HIS Bones.
"What do you mean?" asked Brennan as she backed away, frightened at the prospect of Booth getting so close. A step like this could ruin everything. All the walls she had built up, not to mention they probably wouldn't be allowed to work together anymore. Sure, she had dreams about this moment all the time, but she was scared senseless now that the moment had finally come.
"I love you, Bones" was his reply. "I know this is sudden and I know you're probably freaked out about it and I understand if you need time or whatever, but I think this would be a good time for you to throw reason to the wind and let me in!…Bones?"
Bones just stood there with a blank stare. She hadn't heard anything after those first three words. She shook her head looking utterly bewildered.
"I'm sorry, could you repeat that?"
"Ok, now you're just being difficult! I love you, and I'm pretty sure you have feelings for me. But if you don't, this would probably be a good time to tell me!" exclaimed Booth taking a step closer. And this time Brennan didn't step back.
Taking this as a sign of encouragement, Booth stepped even closer so that they were barely separated by a thin strip of nothingness. Once again he paused just to make sure, she really wanted this.
She raised her eyes and her breath caught when she saw the passion and love in his eyes. And without a second thought she raised her lips to his in a brief kiss that sent shivers through both of them.
"I love you too," she said as they broke apart.
"So, you'll go to coffee with me…even if there are no more murders?" Booth said with a smile.
Brennan just smiled as she wrapped her arms around his neck,
"Of course"
