(A/N: I'm back! I'm writing this story because I had it in my head for a while. I hope you enjoy it! It starts when Elizabeth (Cheyenne and Van's daughter) is 18 and graduating.) O yea, I'm sorry if I don't update often… my life is really crazy! XD
Cheyenne Montgomery watched teary-eyed as a beautiful blonde girl walk across the stage in a flowing gown. "She's gonna be gone soon." She thought forlornly.
"Look Van. We waited so long for our baby girl to walk across that stage and now she finally is." Cheyenne exclaimed when she found her voice. "Time has just gone by so quickly. It seemed like just yesterday, I was changing her diapers. Now, I can't believe she's graduating." She let out a sigh. Every day she looked at her gorgeous daughter and it always reminded her of how she was getting older. She never regretted any of her choices, but at times like this, she wished that time would slow down a bit.
"Humph. There are a lot of things I can't believe about that girl." Van muttered underneath his breath. "For instance, I can't believe she's three months pregnant!! I'm going to kill that boy. What's his name? Oh yeah, Peter Lamuze, the school's best basketball player. What does she see in him? He's only good at sports, smart, and, in her words, HOT. But still! How could they be so irresponsible?! So reckless?! So-"
"Like us?" Cheyenne said with a smile.
"Cheyenne. My last name was never Lamuze and never will be. It sounds French for an alligator, or a monkey, or… an alligunkey!" Van laughed at the word. He then got serious again. "I do not want our first grandchild to be named after an alligunkey." Van said as he crossed his arms.
"Well, I for one, respect their decision to keep the baby. I think that it's very mature of them to not even think about abortion. It's horrible when couple's try to undo the problem that they created. It's funny really. I would've thought that she was trying to follow in our footsteps. You know, getting pregnant at 18 and all, but we never told her..." Cheyenne began to think aloud. "And despite the fact that this will make me a grandma… OH MY GOD VAN, I'M GONNA BE OLD!!" Cheyenne screamed as the fact began to dawn onto her.
"What happened to respecting their decision and all that crap." Van asked laughing. Cheyenne glared at him and started to cry.
"I don't want to be old and mean like Mom." She whimpered. Reba, who was sitting behind them, bit back the temptation of slapping her eldest daughter.
Now people were swiveling their heads around to see what all the commotion was about.
"Nothing to see here people," remarked Kyra who was sitting next to them, "only an odd couple, having their daily fight about being old. Something you can see every day when you go to hell. If you must watch now, there will be a five dollar entry fee per person. We hope you enjoy the fascinating show of 'Tweedle-Dum and Tweedle-Dummer.' It is always very interesting. I have to see it every day! Even
though on most days, I watch it against my will. I mean it starts right in front of my face!" She laughed as even more people started staring at them. "I guess we could make a lot of money off of you guys." Kyra said to Van and Cheyenne, laughing even harder.
"Well you want to know which show I want to watch? 'Shuttup Kyra!' Yeah I hear it's a popular show that has an important lesson to it. It's about this evil girl who torments her beautiful older sister and then a monster comes and eats the evil little girl. Then all the villagers dance around the older sister and make her the queen." Cheyenne shot back.
"You know another show I love is called 'Dumb Blondes'. And it's about- well, you can guess what it's about by the title. Oh wait, you can't figure it out because you're just a dumb blonde! "Kyra said smugly. (A/N: I personally have nothing against blondes. It just seemed like something Kyra would say. Lol. )
"Well you want to know something about red hair Kyra?" Cheyenne challenged. She stopped as she saw her mother glare at her. "It's very nice." Cheyenne spat out thinking of all the things she could've said about it.
"What's the matter Cheyenne? Did the monster that ate the 'evil little girl' eat your tongue?" Kyra laughed at her sister's lack of words.
Reba stopped the argument before it got too out of control. Even if her two daughters were full grown, they still fought as if they were two teenagers. Some habits never die.
"Knock it off you two! Have this love fest some other time!" She hissed as even more people started watching the two sisters bicker. "Now look at your little brother and try to be more like him-quiet and still!!"
They all look at Jake and watch him furiously push buttons on his PSP.
"Ok, just buy us some PSP's give us a suit and tie and we're on our way." Kyra said sarcastically. Reba gave them a look that said you-be-quiet and went back to watching the ceremony.
A few hours later…
"Thanks Mrs. H. for letting us have the graduation party at your house. We didn't really want 100 kids at our house breaking everything they see." Van said little woozily as he chugged down the last of his 10th beer.
"No problem Van. It's my pleasure. Wait what? Cheyenne said it was because you didn't have enough room!" Reba said her eyebrows shooting up and feeling her temper grow. She did not like being tricked. "Why you little-" She started to say.
"Um- well- thanks and goodbye!!" Van said and hurriedly ran into a mob of students. He might be a little drunk, but he always knew to run when his mother-in-law got mad.
Reba followed her son-in-law into the mob. She saw him dart sideways heading for Cheyenne and Elizabeth. She quickly hid seeing that he started a conversation with them. "Well, this ought to be interesting. I need a laugh." She thought. Little did she know the conversation would have a huge impact on her eldest daughter.
"Cheyenne, I sort of told your mom why we're using her house." Van said breathless when he finally found his wife and daughter who looked like they were deep into a conversation. He knew that this would make his wife mad so he grabbed some random person's beer and popped the cap off. He offered some to Cheyenne but she immediately refused.
"VAN! DAD!" Cheyenne and Elizabeth screamed in unison, both of them hitting him on the head making him spit out his drink on his shirt. "Now she's going to kill me. And she's already mad for arguing with Kyra!"Cheyenne exclaimed. "Dad, you just took Peter's beer! How could you!" Elizabeth said surprised at her Dad's action. Cheyenne shook her head. Sometimes, she did not understand her husband. Trying to ignore Van, she went back to her conversation with her daughter.
"Well anyway Lizzie, are you sure you want to take care of the baby all by yourself? I know that Peter will be there but men aren't too much help when it comes to children." Glaring at Van, she added, "Or wives."
Van just stood there still trying to clean his shirt and drink his beer at the same time.
"Mom, don't think about it so much. I know you're worried about me and Peter, but we'll be fine. And we know we can always count on you, Dad, and Grammy if we're really fed up." Elizabeth started. Cheyenne smiled as she saw how mature her daughter was getting. Seeing the smile, Elizabeth went on, "And look how well you and Dad did raising me with the help of Grammy. And you got pregnant before I did!" She said smiling.
Cheyenne looked at her daughter dumbfounded. It felt like someone had just punched her in the stomach and the air was sucked out of the room. She felt the blood drain from her face. How did her daughter know when she got pregnant? They never told any of their children. Hearing this, Van had spit out his beer again. "When did you find out?" Cheyenne finally asked when she began breathing a little easier. She and Van had worked so hard so their daughter wouldn't know she was unplanned for. They thought that it would've lowered her self esteem and make her feel like they didn't want her. Now in a matter of seconds, their daughter announced that she knew and made it sound like it was no big deal.
"Mom, it wasn't that hard. I mean, there were so many facts pointing to it. But I got the biggest clue when I was thirteen and Grammy told Dad to clean the attic .He was watching football with Grandpa so he said he'd give me twenty bucks if I cleaned it for him. Of course, I accepted because I was flat out broke and wanted to go to the mall." Elizabeth took a breath. She never thought it would shock her mom this much. "So anyway I was cleaning and I found a few old photos of you and Dad in your senior year. I just glanced over it wanting to see what you looked like when you were in high school. I mean, how cool is it to see what your mom and dad looked like when they were the same age as you? And I got to say that your outfits were horrible! Besides that, I found you and Dad sitting together and your
stomach looked HUGE! At first I thought you were just really fat but then I saw Dad's hand was on your belly. There were also a lot of people laughing and pointing at your stomach. It was sort of obvious that you were pregnant. I was a little bummed out at first, finding out that I was an accident, but then I was excited that I was different from Chris and Lee." Elizabeth smiled at the sound of her brothers' name.
Chris was her younger brother and when he was born; his umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck. They almost lost him, but after 33 hours of labor and months of treatment in the hospital, he was saved. After many arguments, they finally decided to name him Christian Brock Montgomery. They had named him Christian because they felt like God was giving them a gift for letting him live so he should believe in God with all his heart. He was now 13 and didn't show any symptoms that he almost suffocated to death at birth. Elizabeth thanked Him every day for letting him live. Even if he was a pain in the neck at times, he was still her brother, that was a miracle to everyone.
Lee was her youngest brother. He was only 8 but was an all-star soccer player since he was 4. But for some reason, her mother would never let her dad go to any of his games. She still wondered why. Lee had once thought that his dad didn't care about him, but after a long talk with his parents, he had came out smiling. He had told no one what they talked about. Lee, like his older brother, was also a pain at times. It had been Lee who disclosed the fact that she was pregnant to her parents. She had put the pregnancy test at the bottom of the trash bag but she had forgotten that Lee loved to play in garbage. He had found the stick and thought it would help him in school. He was learning about growing up, and thought that he could use the stick for his growing up project. That only ended in a disaster…
"You see, I always felt as if Christian was your favorite and Lee was your all-star kid. I was just there taking up space. But then I found out that you could've easily killed me without anyone knowing, but instead you kept me and raised me by yourselves, well, with the help of Grammy. That made me feel as if I had something no one else had. And also seeing that you took a risk of keeping me, gave the courage to keep my child. It gave me the extra push I needed to face the world and tell them that I was pregnant. Without the example you set for me, I don't know what I would've done. You really showed me the miracle of life." Elizabeth said smiling.
Cheyenne looked at her daughter and in awe. She really had grown up. But Cheyenne still had a hard time believing that she was in reality. And there was a question that was nagging her ever since she found out her daughter knew she was unplanned for. "Do Peter, Chris, and Lee know?" She blurted out.
"Peter knows because I told him. I didn't think it was such a big deal and he needed something to calm his nerves when I told him I was pregnant. And I wasn't trying to be like you Mom. Honest. It wasn't like I thought just because you got pregnant in high school I had to be. It was just a mistake that Peter and I didn't use protection. We weren't trying to live up to you and Dad or anything. And I'm not sure if Chris knows. I hired him to help me clean the attic that day. I'm not sure if he remembers though. He was Lee's age when I found out. I'm positive Lee doesn't know though unless Chris remembered and told him." Elizabeth answered.
"What other facts tipped you off?" Cheyenne asked
"It starts with your age. Your 36-" Elizabeth started not stuttering at a question. It seemed as if she had planned out each answer. She then saw her mom wince at her age, she hurriedly went on. "-ish. And I'm 18. If you subtract our ages, you get 18. This meant you had me when you were 18. Either that or I now have a better excuse of why I almost failed math." Elizabeth said chuckling.
Van, who was dazed for all this, finally snapped out of his trance. "I told you that we should've told her you were older." He hissed to his wife.
"Van! Do you honestly think I can pull off the age of an older woman? I can probably pull off 25 if I wanted to. I am not like my mother, who could've been 50, for all we've known, when I was pregnant." Cheyenne said vainly.
Reba chose this time to step out of where she was hiding.
