a/n: I tried it. Wonder what it will mean.
"In all of our darkness and trials...in all of our sweetness and bitterness. We have remained unchanged. It should be a most curious sight, but it merely makes me wonder...have we become desensitized? Have we lost our essence? What say you, as you try to cry but find yourself emptied of tears? Do not be afraid. In your loneliness...in our loneliness...the heavens shall supply. The rain shall become your tears, as you weep inwardly. Quietly. Helplessly. Do you hate the feeling? I know that I do."
The sky opened up above her head and poured rain onto her form. There was a sizzling and an outpouring of steam from her fur.
"You carry the heat so brilliantly. Did you know that?"
The girl stood with her pink umbrella as the wetness rolled off of it. She smiled at the lavender cat with her swishing tail. Even in the midst of the downpour, she looked dry already.
"Do you find it beautiful?"
"How could I not?" Amy Rose smiled her summery smile as Blaze turned from her perch on the tall rock. She crouched to get a better look at the hedgehog.
"I can see why he thinks you're so interesting," Amy said.
"Do you? It's not a bother to you?"
"Mm? I'm not worried about you stealing him away or anything like that."
"And why not, pray tell?" Amy thought she could feel the heat intensify a bit.
"You don't seem like his type."
"Explain."
Amy shrugged. "It's just a gut feeling."
"Those have been known to be unreliable," she said pointedly. Amy smiled, not missing the delivery.
"I'm usually not wrong about these types of things. Sonic will testify to that."
"..."
"You're not bothered by the rain?"
"I can barely feel it."
"You really are interesting. And that speech was lovely."
"Speech? That? No...I was just musing to myself."
"It's still beautiful."
"I'm flattered that you think so."
"I'm glad to hear it. Blaze?"
"Yes?"
"Do you mind being alone?"
"I do not."
"Why?"
"I was born alone. Cursed. As you can see."
Amy looked curiously at the steam rising from Blaze's limbs. They streamed out as smoky ribbons when the wind blew by.
"So that's why?"
"I have always been alone."
"I'm sorry, Blaze. I know that you've mentioned it before."
"It's fine."
"But it shouldn't be."
"There's nothing to worry about."
"Do you cry as well, Blaze?"
"..."
"Or..." Amy stuck her hand out into the falling rain. The moisture splashed against her fingers. A few drops of red coloured the ground before being washed away "Are these your tears, then?"
"..."
"Blaze?"
"...a voice echoes inside of my mind. It tells me to be strong. Not to cry. I don't know where that voice came from, and I don't think I'll ever find out."
"Do you want to?"
"What?"
"Do you want to cry, one day?"
"No. I have a kingdom to lead."
"I see."
"Your concern is noted, Amy Rose. Thank you."
"Mm-hm."
Blaze stood up again and looked into the darkened skies. "Do you want to cry, Amy?"
"...yeah. I kinda do."
The cat looked down at the piece of bloodied cloth in Amy's hand.
"Blaze?"
"Amy."
"It's too much. It's just too much."
"You couldn't..."
"He cried too, when he saw. You know?"
"So you were right after all. I'm not his type."
"Blaze?"
She hopped down from the rock, landing gracefully on her feet.
"Come here."
Amy ran to her outstretched arms, the umbrella falling in her wake. A warmth far greater than the one coming from Blaze's fur engulfed her, and she felt that it was okay to be herself. She shed tears that quickly dried on her cheeks as she snuggled into the cat's warmth.
"I'm scared. I don't know what's happening to the world."
"Do you wish it would rain more often? Because you simply don't have enough tears to shed? Do not worry...the heavens will supply."
"What happens when...the rain stops falling? What happens when we run out of tears?"
In the midst of the rain, in the forming veil of smoke...Blaze placed a hand on Amy's cheek, gently.
And she smiled a beautiful, melancholy smile.
