'Fairytales' – Part One. By Ry / Empress of the Yellow Trousers
'Rapunzel'
A note from the author:
I have to admit, I did NOT write 'The Young Ones'. I don't own 'The Young Ones' or any related thing, though I do know this kid called Rick who's on the school soccer team. Also, I'm not earning any money from writing this, which is a pity, because I'm not earning money from anything else either. Happy reading!
Once upon a time there lived a prince. He was named Prince Neil.
Prince Neil lived with his mother and father, Mr and Mrs Pye. They were loving parents, and Prince Neil was happy living with them.
One day, Prince Neil was looking out the window into the neighbour's field.
'Oh wow! Mummy, look at that field over there! Prince Neil said in wonder.
'What grows there, I wonder?' Mrs Pye asked.
'Lentils, dear.' Mr Pye answered.
Prince Neil smiled. 'Can I have some lentils, Daddy?'
'Well, I don't know –' Mr Pye said reluctantly.
'Get him some lentils, dear.' Mrs Pye said sternly.
So Mr Pye went over to the field to fetch some lentils for his beloved son. As soon as he picked some, and turned to walk away, the door to the house next door opened and a witch stomped out.
'Just what do you think you're doing?! Those are my bloody lentils! Get your own!' She walked into the Pye family's house. When she saw little Prince Neil, she said, 'As punishment for stealing my lentils, I'm going to take your child!' And with that, she took the little Prince and flew away, cackling loudly.
The next day, the witch lead Prince Neil to a tall tower, which she locked him in.
'Oh no… Isn't this, you know, a bit heavy?' Prince Neil said worriedly. The witch just cackled evilly, then left.
Years later, Prince Neil was still living alone, locked in the tower. He had survived only on lentils, water and the occasional bowl of cornflakes.
One day, Prince Neil heard a voice from outside the tower. 'Hello?'
He looked down. There stood a girl, wearing armour and a crown.
'Hello up there!' She shouted.
'Oh no! I'm being hassled in the tower by a chick!' Neil panicked.
'No! I've come to rescue you!' The girl-knight shouted.
'Oh. Well, that's OK, then.' Neil said.
'How do I get up there?'
'Maybe you could sort of, use my hair as a rope to climb up.'
'Brilliant!' The knight shouted. 'Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your long hair!'
'Who's Rapunzel?' Neil asked, confused.
'I don't know, actually.' The knight admitted. 'Oh well. Let down your hair anyway.'
Prince Neil did so. 'I don't think it's quite long enough to climb on.' He said. 'Maybe you should use the stairs instead.'
