Tires screeched on asphalt in his hurry to arrive by her side on time. Never did Merlin rush so fast in his life. Since Morgana's desperate call, he couldn't stop for a couple of seconds without hearing the beating of his heart and the cry of the blood in his veins to move. He didn't even remember the last time he drove his car. Usually he preferred the bus because it was easier transportation to work. Now he couldn't be more grateful he decided to buy a Ferrari for emergencies. This was an emergency.

He slammed his foot harder on the pedal as he barely made it through a yellow light. He didn't have time to worry about safety, not when Morgana could be in danger at that moment. He sped through several more lights and cut several more turns, determined to get to his destination. Finally driving up the long, paved driveway to the gorgeous Pendragon mansion, Merlin could feel the weight of his heart lighten a bit. Before he could stop the car completely, he forced the door of his car open and sprinted into the ivory doors into a wide, florid hallway.

With Morgana's plea through the phone still pounding in his head, Merlin zoomed up the brass stairs of the hallway and quickly made his way to the room at the end of the corridor. He shoved the door open breathlessly and stood in front of three confused looking people.

Merlin pressed his hands on his knees and panted heavily into his shirt. What the hell was going on? He thought this was an emergency.

"And when did you decide to start running marathons?" Arthur asked as Merlin finally started breathing normally.

"And when did this count as an emergency?" Merlin glowered at Morgana as she smiled innocently.

"I knew that if I sounded like a 'damsel in distress', you'd come, Prince Charming."

"Oh shut up."

He glanced over at Gwen, who laid in a raised bed with a bulging stomach.

"How are you feeling?"

"Okay," Gwen said, giving a weak smile. "I thought he was coming, so I panicked. You didn't have to come here so quickly."

"I would have came even faster if I knew the truth." Merlin glared at Morgana, who still smiled sweetly at him. "Either way, I'll stay, just in case he really does come."

The four friends chatted away in the room merrily, about Gwen's pregnancy, about Morgana's cry for help on the phone (which Merlin still didn't forgive her for); it was nice to talk to them again, especially after Merlin's insane shifts at the hospital.

After a couple of hours, Gwen began to stifle cries of pain. Merlin rushed to Gwen's side, and began the process that was only so natural to him.

After screaming, sobbing and a good clean-up, Merlin held a securely covered baby boy in his arms. He smiled down at the magnificent creature and silently gave him to Gwen.

Tears leaked out of Gwen's eyes as she gazed at her small, but beautiful creation in wonder. She glanced back at Arthur who beamed down at his son and his wife. Merlin grinned as he watched the couple united with the new addition of the family. He looked over at Morgana and realized she was trying to catch Merlin's eye. She gave an approving nod which Merlin returned back and now knew why she made the desperate call: if there was anything worth rushing for, it was to witness this moment.
