"Thanks again for coming, I know it meant a lot to Soph", Donna was waving off the last of the wedding guests. "Even if she didn't get married", she added with a roll of her eyes and a smile.

Sophie had left to go on her travels with Skye a couple of hours ago now and while most of the people at the wedding (she was still coming to terms with the fact that it had been her wedding) were staying in the hotel, she didn't have enough room for everyone, and most of them were Sophie's friends anyway, people she hardly even knew.

As she stood there on the dock waving who she thought was an old school friend of Sophie's back to the mainland, she felt warm hands slide around her waist and come together over her non-waving hand on her stomach. Sam placed his chin on her left shoulder.

"I thought they'd never leave."

Donna brought her other hand down to join the three already occupying her waistline. Just his touch gave her little butterflies in the pit of her stomach. "Why, did you have something in mind Mr Carmichael?" She gave him a sidelong grin. She had a few ideas herself but after 21 years she thought she had the prerogative to let him do the wooing. At least for now.

Sam gave her a little grin of his own. "Well, Mrs Carmichael . . . ." Sam trailed off but Donna wasn't about to let him off the hook that easily. She cocked her head to the side and raised her eyebrows, looking at him expectantly.

"Come on." Before Donna could respond, Sam was dragging her off the dock across the beach towards the hotel. She tried to pull him back but he was apparently a lot stronger than she was.

"Sam wait, where are we going?"

He stopped and turned back towards her, halfway between the ocean and the hotel. "Well seen as I'm sharing your old goat house with two other men, I'm thinking your room is probably safer."

Those butterflies were now turning into snakes, and she couldn't help the little rush of blood she felt travel to her cheeks, or the smile that spread across her face. She felt like she had over twenty years ago when she had first met Sam, like a teenager. She couldn't believe that she had missed out on this for so long. Neither could she believe that after all this time he was hers again. All this time she had been telling herself she was fine by herself, that she didn't need anyone but herself and her daughter, that she was glad she was older and wiser and past falling in love and having fun. And she had been telling herself these things for so long she had started to believe them. But right now, in this moment with Sam holding her hands and the promise of love and laughter in the rest of her life, she knew she had never been happier.

Sam took her hesitation the wrong way and sounded a little anxious when he shook her hands a little and asked "Are you ok?"

Startled out of her reverie, she grasped his head in both hers hands and when she couldn't find the words to adequately describe how she felt (she didn't think there were any) she leant up and kissed him on the mouth. He responded for several moments before she pulled away slightly and moved her head to the side, bringing her arms down and around his broad shoulders.

"I have just thought of a problem though", she almost whispered into his ear, as he began kissing her jaw-line and upper neck.

"What's that?" he murmured in between kisses. Nothing could be serious enough to make him want to stop kissing this woman who he loved so much and had so nearly lost forever.

Donna closed her eyes and tilted her head back a little so Sam could get a better angle. "I've got the two nosiest, loudest, non-discreet women you could ever hope to meet staying in the room next to me and you know . . ." It took a severe amount of will power for her to take a step back, and not to laugh at the feigned hurt expression on Sam's face. She shook her head as she was speaking, "The walls in the hotel? Not that thick?"

Sam's feigned expression now turned from hurt to shock. "My my, what are you suggesting?"

Donna knew he was winding her up but felt a little flushed anyway. "Well, you know, it's been a while, and they know it, and well, I don't particularly want an audience ok?"

The mock shock remained on Sam's face. "Oh? But from what I remember it'd be the best show of their lives." Donna didn't know whether he was being serious or messing around and stood there for a couple of seconds unsure what to say.

Sam burst out laughing, Donna following suite moments later. He pulled her close to him despite her good natured protests, wrapping his arms around her and placing his chin on the top of her head. They stood like that for ages, each simply enjoying the presence of the other after so long without it.

"Guess we'll have to find somewhere else then won't we?"
