Easter: Why I Do and Don't celebrate

As the sun shines down on a brand new day

I feel myself want to turn away

For when Easter comes

I don't want it to stay.

At first it was just another holiday

A tradition that would fade away

Something simple I could avoid

For it was just a simple holiday.

Then we all realized that "Easter" was not right

And made a big deal over dark and light

But all this commotion

I now don't want to fight.

For everyone else loves this day

But I for myself don't enjoy the melee

For the meaning of Easter

I see every day.

We make a big fuss when Easter comes 'round

But I prefer not to make a sound

I celebrate Easter

'Cuz I know what I've found.

Every day, when I think about Him

And what He did to erase all my sin

I rejoice inside

And my life can begin.

I celebrate Easter everyday

So I don't understand what we do and say

Why we celebrate Easter only once a year

When we should celebrate every day.

I'd prefer if Easter didn't come

All the celebration is rather humdrum

I remember my Lord and what He did for me

And so, instead of Easter, I just wrote a poem.
