Riley.
Riley was so small when he was born. She thought, one wrong move and she'd break this precious gift she couldn't imagine what she'd done to deserve.
A chapter of your life ends when you become a parent. No longer is your life about becoming self-reliant or successful. Its about making sure your child is. Your existence becomes about making sure that he is safe, secure and happy. By any means necessary, by all means necessary.
Sarah-Jean always believed that. From the day Riley was born to the too-long seconds up till her execution.
That was why, in many ways, the happiest day of her life was the day she handed her Riley into the arms of another. A father who could love him and give him the life Sarah-Jean never could.
She had neglected so much before that night, resulting in so much pain. But Sarah-Jean had no regrets about what she'd done with Riley.
She'd have sworn she heard faint, mournful strains of music in the seconds before dying. She went with a smile and the faith that her son would be alright.
