Mothers' Curse,
by Simahoyo
One Shot.– experiment. NOT RIZZLES! It just won't work as Rizzles. On a Rizzzoli family play day, Jane, Maura and Caylin discover they were each cursed by their mothers with the same curse.
They came to the park one parent at a time, Tommy Rizzoli with TJ, Jane with Regina, who was already trying to push TJ off the teeter totter so she could jump on it.
"Reggie! Leave T.J. alone!"
"No! I wanna jump, and he only wants to play nice. Move, T.J."
"Reggie Jones, what did I tell you?"
"God, she's a stubborn kid. Remind you of anybody?"
"Shut up, Tommy."
Maura arrived with her little princess, Constance. The six-year old girl was light brown haired with Maura's eye color. She was a year younger that her wild cousin Regina, but acted years older–most of the time. Constance was carrying a book, and was dressed like a mini version of her mother, except for the maternity top.
"Sorry we're late. We had a discussion about why we can't give her baby brother away when he gets here. My head aches. My feet ache. He'd better not be twins. This is it."
Maura sat down heavily. She was only five months along, but she got huge when pregnant.
"Mommie, I want to play with T.J. Do I have to be nice to Reggie?"
Maura blushed. "Yes, she's your cousin. Family is family. And when she's big, you could be best friends."
Constance looked at her mother with real doubt. "Well, Mommie, you don't have hives, so I imagine you actually believe that. Please watch my book."
Constance went off to play with T.J., while Reggie used the swings in the least safe way possible.
Jane got up to try to play with her.
Caylin finally showed up with her little girl, Katherine. She looked flustered. "My God, Maura, I practically had to pry Mom loose so we could get here. She's still treating me like a little kid. I thought she would use all that mothering on Katie, but no, she's doing it to both of us. Phil sneaked out before she got there. The wimp." She turned to her daughter. "Do you want to go play, sweetie? You can play by yourself, or with cousin Constance and T.J. Alright?"
Katie ignored her Aunt and Mother both, and sat down to tear up some grass.
Caylin looked at Maura with some concern. "Is she all right? She seems to ignore the world, and close herself off to everyone. She isn't autistic, Is she?"
Maura hugged her younger sister. "You did that when I first met you. And I was pretty much the same when I was really young. I don't' see any if the classic signs of autism."
Maura reached down and patted Katie's shoulder. "Hi, honey. Do you like the grass?"
Katie nodded, and tossed a handful at her aunt.
"Katie, do you know how to read yet?"
Caylin's mouth was open in surprise.
"Yes. I like to read. I want more books, please."
"I thought so. I had already taught myself to read by her age. And I wonder if maybe you did."
"I do remember reading a lot of books...Oh God, Mom always used to say something to me she used to call it, 'the Mother's Curse. I hope you have a kid just like you when you grow up.'"
Jane was standing nearby, already tired out by Reggie, she had made Tommy take her place.
"Oh that. Yeah, Ma said the same thing to me. And it came true–with a vengeance.", Jane said, watching Constance and Reggie yelling at each other.
Maura gave a smirk. "On the other hand, Constance told me, on more than one occasion,
"J'espère que vous avez un enfant, tout comme vous, quand vous grandissez!"
"What does that mean?", asked Jane.
"I hope you have a child just like you when you grow up."
