A Chance at Love
Hey guys, I'm Crystal, known as Inuyasha fan2789 here… this is my very first fan fic and I'm really nervous… I'm not really into writing stories, but inspiration struck me and told me to write, so here I am lol… Anywho… here is my first fan fic ever.
Summary: Kagome Higurashi has had the worst luck in her life… will that change once she went to high school? (I used some of the events in my life to write this… so please be gentle with my feelings lol)
Disclaimer: Inuyasha came to me, a warm grin on his face… He then approached me and softly whispered in my ear, "I'm yours…" I felt myself melt, but I actually fell out the bed and I realized it was a dream... Sob
Chapter 1: The Beginning
Kagome Higurashi was very shy when it came to dating. She always kept herself focused on school and her studies. Okay so she sounds like a nerd right? Well, she was, but she didn't look like a typical nerd. She had long, curly raven hair, which stopped a little below her thigh, and a nice hourglass figure, the kind that girls would love to show off. She had a pretty face, with passionate hazel eyes, which turned a brilliant shade of green when she was either upset, angry, or in a bright place and a brilliant smile. She wasn't like a lot of the other girls; instead of wearing clothes that complimented her body nicely, she'd wear what she felt most comfortable in: a loose pair of jeans and a loose t-shirt to go with it as well as comfortable sneakers. Lots of people wondered why she hid her body under all that loose clothing, and would say things like,
"If I had your body, I'd wear these tight jeans with a tight shirt to match" and blah blah blah…
Kagome would just look at them and sigh to herself… "If they only knew…" Though Kagome did admit that her physical features were nice, she felt very insecure about herself. No one knew why, and it's because she never told them…
Kagome was always a shy, timid person. In elementary school, she really didn't have any friends. She would ask herself why, why did they pick on her? Why did they always tease her? Why wouldn't they accept her as a "friend"? Kagome looked like every other girl in her class, so it confused her as to how they just started making fun of her, making her feel crappy about herself. She only had 1 friend, Sango Taijiya, whom she met in Kindergarten. They quickly bonded after saying "hi" to each other, and it's pretty much been history from there. Sango would always stand up to the people who teased Kagome, she couldn't stand how they would just say things so hurtful to them. Kagome slowly began to develop a tough skin, but the words of her classmates still hurt like thousands of needles. They were both intelligent, and it was no surprise that they skipped 6th grade. Kagome was so happy to get away from the one who teased her… But to her disappointment, the cycle began over again, this time with the older kids she now had classes with.
Sango would look at Kagome and feel so bad for her; she did everything she could to comfort Kagome and make her feel good about herself. It didn't work for Kagome, but she didn't tell Sango that. She appreciated the fact her best friend tried though. Then, when they reached 8th grade, something happened to Kagome no one expected: she began to blossom. Her body began to look curvy, and her features began to accentuate more through her stages of puberty. Girls became jealous of her because she now had boy drooling over her. Sango was still there though, to protect Kagome from all the phonies and people who tried to hurt her. But, as you know, they worried when they were getting ready to enter high school because they weren't sure if they'd go to the same high school. Kagome and Sango got accepted to a lot of the top high schools in Tokyo, even those that had demons attending as well. They both used to talk about how they wanted to go to a school that had demons in it. So they were excited when they both got accepted to InuTaisho High, the top school in Tokyo for humans and demons. Their excitement came to a halt when Sango's mom wanted her to go to a different school. Luckily, Kagome and her mom were able to talk her out of it. They were happy, knowing they would be going to the same school. They didn't really care if they made friends there, though it would be nice to have a few, as long as they had each other.
"A fresh start," thought Kagome after she no longer had to go to that hellhole they called 'school'.
She was still timid, and very shy, even though she should've been more outgoing and outspoken since she was now becoming a woman. She thought to herself about what changes she needed to do before she began high school. 'For one thing, I can't allow people to try to take advantage of me or make fun of me.' She thought back to all of the times (well pretty much all through elementary school), about how people would be her friend when it came to doing the schoolwork, but outside of class, they would just make fun of her and call her names. Surprisingly, she managed not to get beat up by the other girls, but she concluded that they thought mental and emotional abuse was better. She sighed to herself about how defenseless and vulnerable she felt, and didn't like it at all.
So when she and Sango started their first day at InuTaisho High, she became a different person. She was more outspoken than before, and said a lot of things that were on her mind. One time, Kikyo, one of the "popular" girls and a girl that used to make fun of Kagome, walked up to her, wanting to apologize for how she treated her in the past. Kagome looked at her while she opened her mouth to begin to apologize, the cut her off by saying rather coldly,
"Why are you talking to me? I don't like you so get the hell outta my face."
A lot of people, including Kikyo, looked at her with a wide-eyed stare. Was this the same Kagome Higurashi that used to be so timid and quiet? Angrily, she stomped off, obviously thinking that Kagome was going to quickly grovel at her feet. Sango looked at her with an impressed expression.
"I was wondering when you'd crack," she said laughing.
"I'm just sick and tired of dealing with the bull… I'm tired of people thinking of me as their welcome mat and trying to walk over me," said Kagome, feeling rather proud of herself.
They walked to class together still conversing about what Kagome did. So it wasn't a surprise that by lunch time came, people were gossiping about "the girl who dissed Kikyo." Sango and Kagome looked at each other, amused by the results. No one knew Kagome was still that same shy, timid girl, not even Sango. Kagome wanted to accept Kikyo's apology, but something inside her began building defenses around her mentally and emotionally, and she gave her the cold shoulder. Kikyo deserved it, but Kagome thought that she didn't have to be so harsh. Her inner voice said it was for the best, and she inwardly agreed.
Kagome didn't have a good childhood, and the fact that her classmates made fun of her didn't make it any better. Kagome's mom had been in 2 abusive relationships, one with her father, and the other with her younger brother Souta's father. Kagome always heard them argue about something. Both Kagome's and Souta's fathers had a drug problem, so it made everything even worse. Kagome's dad left when she was a year old. Her mom then met Souta's dad 2 years later, and they stood together for about 10 years. Kagome couldn't understand why her mom would stay with him for so long if he only made her miserable. When Kagome would ask about her dad, her mom would say so many bad things. She saw Souta's dad did fit the same description of hers, and she just looked with confusion.
They always argued, regardless if they were in front of Kagome and Souta or not. They would also see them fight, her mom throwing things at him while he tried to dodge them. They looked and sighed. Kagome was all Souta had, and she did everything she could possible do for him. She fed him, made sure he bathed and did his homework, pretty much all the things their mom didn't do. Kagome would lie in her bed at night and cry silently to herself, wondering why all of this was happening to her. That is what made her more shy and timid toward people, that is what made her feel vulnerable: the fact that she didn't have any stability in her life. She was pretty much a mother they day Souta came home from the hospital.
Sango saw that Kagome was deep in thought, oblivious to what exactly she was thinking about. "You okay Kags?" asked Sango with concern. Kagome quickly snapped out of her train of thought and replied, "Oh yeah, great!" with a big grin. Sango looked at her friend and her concerned look turned to relief. She knew about what Kagome was going through, and felt bad for her. She wished there was something she could do to help. They ate their lunch and gossiped about the usual teen girl stuff: clothes, shopping, boys, boys, oh did I mention boys (lol)? Kagome sighed as she thought about having a boyfriend; she'd never had one before, and always thought about what it would be like. But she sighed heavily on the inside, she knew guys only talked to her because of her physical features. Even though she wore loose clothing, you could still tell it was there.
Today Kagome had on a pair of men's SouthPole blue jeans and a white t-shirt with read letters reading: "I Don't Discriminate, I Hate Everyone." (I got a hat from Steve & Barry's with that saying! I love their shirts with sayings… Yay Steve & Barry's!! xD) Her long, curly raven hair was in her signature high ponytail with a braid, which stopped right above her butt. She had on red and white Air Force 1's with the laces untied, but tucked into her sneakers. Guys would look at her stare because they didn't expect a girl to dress like them, some thought that they should get tips on clothes from her. But they wouldn't tell her that.
"Kags, why do you dress like that?" asked Sango, who to this day, can't understand why her best friend dressed the way she did.
"Because it's comfortable," replied Kagome with a comfortable sigh.
Sango knew Kagome to be quite the tomboy. Sango thought back to when she'd see Kagome hang out with some of the boys from their neighborhood when they were younger, and they'd play football, baseball, basketball, you know, boy stuff. She was cool with them because they didn't go to the same school she did, and they were much more friendlier to her, especially one in particular. His name was Inuyasha, a hanyou that lived down the street from Kagome. He had long silver hair, amber eyes, and the cutest little puppy dog ears at the top of his head; he was a year older than Kagome. Every time Sango saw Kagome, she had a new cut or bruise to show her and a story about something her and Inuyasha did. "Why don't you do normal girl stuff?" Sango asked her once. "Because I'm not a normal girl," said Kagome. "Besides, girl stuff is soooo boring. I mean Barbie dolls? Give me a break." Sango just looked at her dumbstruck and Kagome laughed. Unfortunately, when she was about 9 years old, Inuyasha moved away. She was sad because she knew no one else would go on crazy adventures like he did, and it made her even more miserable than she had ever been because she had one actual friend besides Sango.
Sango just looked at her best friend and shook her head. She should've known Kagome would say something like that. Just then the bell rang, and they left the cafeteria to go to their next class. Every day was pretty much the same for them, until senior year finally arrived.
Well that's the first chapter… what do you guys think? I know it's kinda long, but I just wanted to put some detail… Please read and review!! But don't be too hard on me lol… If I get a good amount of positive reviews, chapter 2 will be up.
