"Well that's…that's nice" Connor said a glazed expression on his face as he stared at the painting in front of him and Kevin.
"Yeah" Kevin sighed back, "Very nice indeed"
The Metropolitan Museum of Art was a place that neither of them had visited, despite living within walking distance. While the pair had been sitting on a bus, Connor had spotted an advert for a new exhibition and suggested that it would be the perfect opportunity to cross this essential New York experience off their list. It had caught his eye straight away, 'A Nude Study of the Male Body: An Exhibition of New Artists', and Kevin didn't need much convincing.
"It will be educational"
"I'm sure it will Connor"
"I really want to go"
"Me too"
"I just think…oh…you do?"
"Well I'm not letting you go by yourself" Kevin smiled at his boyfriend and went online to book some tickets. As they entered the exhibition rooms Connor felt the breath knocked out of him. He'd never seen so many naked bodies in one room in his whole life. Even if they were just paintings.
"Look at these people!" Kevin grinned looking around at those viewing the paintings, "What are they doing?" He pointed out several to Connor, who were staring intently at the canvas. Some were leaning forward squinting like art critiques and others were consulting guide books silently. "They look so serious!"
It was very crowded so Kevin took Connor's hand and led him to a quiet corner in front of a painting depicting the garden of Eden but with the slight difference that Eve was male.
"Eve looks a bit like you, don't you think?"
Connor laughed, "I guess she does a bit! The Adam looks a bit familiar too, anyone we know?"
"Who's it by?" Kevin asked.
"I'm not sure" He leaned in for a closer look at the sign, "Oh my gosh Kevin! Felix Deon!"
"Who?"
"Felix Deon! I knew him! Wow, he always was a good artist, I can't believe he's here in a gallery"
"Wait what?"
"We were at college together, he was more into photography back then, I modelled for him a few times"
"What? You modelled for him?"
"Yeah…oh no nothing like that!"
"Thank goodness" Kevin breathed a sigh of relief, glad to hear that his Connor wasn't the subject of one of these paintings.
"No, I always had my clothes on" he laughed thinking back to the memory, "Mind you he did try a couple of times"
"What made him think he could?"
"Well we were dating for a while" He said matter of factly.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Kevin pouted.
"Oh don't look at me like that, you only learned who he was a few seconds ago. Anyway, it was ages before we met"
Kevin looked back at the painting. "He's very talented I'll give him that. Eve is very…detailed"
He chuckled while looking at the intricate detail in the Eve's face, then he looked to Connor, then back to Eve, then Connor, back to Eve. "It's you" He whispered softly.
"What?"
"It's you" Kevin said more firmly, "You're Eve"
There was a moment as they stared at each other and back at the painting before they both snorted and broke into laughter. They attracted several odd looks from the other patrons but they couldn't stop giggling.
"I honestly don't know how I feel about this" Connor said through struggled breaths.
"You should be happy" Kevin said gleefully.
"Why?"
"Just look how generous he's been"
Connor gave him a playful whack with the floor plan. Kevin gave his boyfriend's hand a squeeze then hurried off grinning towards the exit.
"Where are you going in such a hurry?"
"To the gift shop"
"What are you looking for?"
"I'm going to see if they have a post card of it, I want it on the fridge"
