Prologue
Castle Volkihar
It all started with an unearthly shake to wake her up from her sleep. Curled up next to her love in her room of her own castle, it would be a fool's idea to disturb the young vampire lord from her peace. But as soon as her bright amber/blood red eyes snapped open another tremble shook, only this time shouts could be heard from the main hall. She was already up and moving to grab her weapons and armor, her Mace of Molag Bal turn sword and the Sanguine Rose strapped on to her Nightingale armor.
Her love, Edrius, beside her was already set to go, with his ebony sword crafted from herself and his red vampire armor, he looked over catching her eyes, and for a spit second you could see unease and worry that matched hers in them. Which was unlike the carefree Volkihar, and that really worried Arya. But before any of them could say a word the door was opened and in came Garan. "My Lady! We are under attack!"
"Yes Garan, I can hear it." She said sarcastically. Only to get a stern look from the Dunmer.
"This is no time for jokes Arya! You must see this!" And with that he was out to door as fast as he came in.
Arya and Edrius were on his heels the moment he cleared the door, practically running down the steps entering the main hall, she was there to see what had her clan in such a panic. But before she could even breathe a single word, a monstrous roar was heard along with another powerful tremble knocking her down to her knee. Arya just manage to catch herself on the nearest table next to the throne one, while her love was on her other side. Looking up she saw Orthjolf, her advisor not too far away with Serana just behind him.
"Serana! Orthjolf! What in the blazing Oblivion is going on!?" Arya half yelled half questioned.
"We don't know my La- "
"Skip the titles and formalities Orthjolf! If that roar is from what I think it is we're in touble!"
"Yes Arya! It's what you think it is but why?! It's been 3 years!" Serana conformed her fears.
"I don't know. Is Valerica with Vingalmo?"
"Yes" both Orthjolf and Serana said.
"Orthjolf, go get them from her study. We're going to need their help. Serana, stay with me and Edrius till your mother gets here." As Orthjolf bolted to Valerica's study, Serana went to stand by her side, more than liking thinking it was the safest place to be at the moment.
"Serana, have the patrols come back yet?" The leading vampire lord asked.
"No, Orthjolf thinks that they attacked them first."
With that noted, Arya's attention was now turned to her disarrayed clan. Giving them orders to get armored up and prepared for the immediate battle that came knocking on their door. All around them were roars coming from outside, almost bone breaking trembles, and as one part of the stone roof overhead broke apart. That is when Arya could see it. All around her, her castle was falling. And through the last hours of twilight, looking up a dragon could be seen. And a rider in robes of that she has never seen before.
College of Winterhold
The Arcanaeum was always a nice and quiet place for any student or professor to come in and read a book, without the pesky Thalmor Ancano bugging about things he barely understood. The head librarian, Urag gro-Shub made sure of that, claiming several times that the Arcanaeum was his personal plane of Oblivion, and Ancano was going to show respect while Urag was here. And Urag wasn't going anywhere… any time soon at that.
'The Thalmor. Ugh.' Thought Matina Riees as she sat at one of the many tables in the library. It was the weekend, Loredas to be precise, and while many of the other students rather hangout to practice spells or slack off, Matina preferred her solitude. As long as she was respectful and didn't harm or steal any of the books Urag could care less if she stayed all day.
But for whatever reason Matina could not sit still let alone long enough to read let a lone study. She sighed, closing her book, she put it down to take a sip of her hot tea. She smiled warmly at the memory of how she first made tea at the college and how the professors asked about it. Before she could think any more on it a baritone sarcastic voice cut though her thoughts.
"That was the 5th book you put down in 30 minutes. Don't tell me your already an Expert mage."
Looking over to where the voice came from, Matina could see Urag walking around putting books in order. He must have been watching her out of the corner of his eye, and said something after seeing her frustration.
"Don't tell me your going soft in your old age, Urag." Matina sweetly smiled back.
"Why you little-! If I didin't value my own books I would throw one at your puffy haired head!"
"You mean poofy?"
"You know what I mean Miss Know-It-All." mumbled the Orsimer. Truth be told he couldn't be mad at the young Breton. Besides the small sarcasm that seems to run in her family, she was a good kid and showed nothing but respect. She was one of the few he would banter with but not really mean what he says.
"But seriously. Five books in 30 minutes? I know when your upset by now. You've been going to this college for how long? 4 years? So, what is it?" he asked curiously.
"Four years this semester. But that's the thing Urag, I don't know myself. I can't really explain it but I feel like something is going to happen." She said. And to him, she sounded worried, but what for he didn't know, so he left it alone.
For the next few moments Matina got up and helped Urag put the books in order and clean up around the Arcanaeum. With a newly made 'music crystal' playing soft songs in the background, it helped her relax again. But like everything during these days, the peace had to be broken. With the door loudly opened and swift sharp steps, Matina already knew who entered before she turned around.
"Matina Riees, Tolfdir wants to see you, now." Ancano said in an irritated but clipped voice.
Not even bothering to turn around she said smoothly, "I would love to go and see what my favorite teacher wants. But where exactly am I going?"
"To the Hall of Elements, and don't think I'm not- "Ancano started haughtily, only to be cut off by a stern look from Urag. Glaring back but without another word he turned sharply, walking back to the door without even looking back to see if she was following.
Matina on the other hand was silently cheering her favorite librarian on. But finally looking up and saying goodbye to Urag, she grabbed her bag and went to go see why Tolfdir wanted her.
Walking in the Hall of Elements, she instantly saw what all the fuss was about. With Tolfdir talking to the Arch-Mage in worried tones and Ancano not too far away, there was a giant floating orb dead center of the room. The same orb she and Tolfdir discovered in Saarthal, only she hoped it was, for it wasn't the same blue light glowing. But a menacing red.
Author' Note
I would like to thank anyone who is reading this story. After so many years of the fifth installment of the Elder Scrolls, I know many of you have probably play it many times over but for me I've only recently started Skyrim myself. This is also my first story I've ever uploaded on here so i thought 'why not'.
There are a few ideas and concepts from a few other books and movies, like Harry Potter and Assassin's Creed, but be no means am I coping them. So with that in mind all ideas belong to those respective creators, I'm just spicing it up a bit.
I will try to post every few weeks, college exams creeping up and working it'll be till summer when I can post more.
Anyways, hope you all like it so far. Lemme know what you think :)
