Watched Episode 2.18 'Space Junk' this week and this came into mind. Definitely not my best work, but it's something.

Title: His Words
Author: bubbles799 (Emma)
Show: Packed to the Rafters
Characters: Jake/Rachel
Summary: Just what did Jake say to Daniel when he went to apologise at the end of 'Space Junk'?
Disclaimer: Seriously, you think I own them? Pfft...

"I've got to do this." Rachel's grip on Jake only got tighter. In between kisses, Jake continued to pull away and repeat his words.

"I've got to do this." And with that, Jake pulled away, determined. "I'll be back." And he was gone, Rachel left standing by his car as Jake went off in search of Daniel, unaware that the man in question had just witnessed the romantic reunion between him and his girlfriend.

"Daniel." Plain and simple. But it did the trick; Daniel turned around at Jake's call. He took a few steps towards Jake, away from the crew.

"Jake," replied Daniel. "Look, I understand the limits; you're with Rachel now."

"I didn't come here about that," Jake interrupted. "I came here to apologise."

"Apology accepted," Daniel replied slowly, nodding his head also slowly.

"You haven't heard it yet." Jake's tone was firm. "I shouldn't have decked you."

"I understand why you did. And for that, I apologise," Daniel said, confidently. "So we'll just call it a lapse in judgement and move on."

"A lapse in judgement," repeated Jake quietly, with a slight laugh. "Yeah." Daniel nodded again, unsure as to whether Jake was going to talk further. After a slight hesitation, Daniel went to move away. Right up until Jake stopped him.

"But listen. Another lapse in judgement. The lapse of judgement where you slapped Rachel in the face." Daniel looked around, as if to see if anyone was listening.

"I'm not that person anymore. I said that what I did to her was unforgiveable," Daniel replied.

"Damn right it was. So you understand that if you touch her again..."

"I'll get more than a punch in the head," finished Daniel for him, to which Jake nodded.

"Work with her if you have to, talk to her if you have to. But anything more than that... Leave her alone." Jake's words lingered.

"You have nothing to worry about then. I wouldn't risk anything more by doing something terrible. And as I said, I'm not that person," Daniel stated his case.

"Good. Then we'll have no problem." Jake went to leave, but this time it was Daniel who did the stopping.

"And just so you know, I'm not planning on interfering. Honestly," Daniel told Jake. "She's happy with you. That's probably more than I could give her."

"Thanks," was Jake's reply, not sure of what else to say. Jake glanced down slightly as he saw Daniel's arm move, extending it to shake with Jake. Jake took his hand and shook, not something he particularly wanted to do. But deep down Jake knew what Rachel was getting at. Just keep the peace.

And Jake knew well enough that what he had with Rachel was special. A simple hand shake was a small price to pay if it meant she would still be in his life.

Short; a one-shot. Would love to hear what you all think. Thanks for reading!
