She didn't know where she was or who these people were, but when she saw the man with the steel blue eyes, she instinctively knew that, whoever she had been, he was a part of her.
His eyes lit up with recognition when he saw her, confirming her instincts that they had known each other before.
Before what?
Before she ended up in the hangar bay of this battlestar with a bunch of other refugees from the planet.
He started towards her and she straightened up in hopeful anticipation, like a school girl at a dance, but he was stopped by one of the medical staff. The man never removed those magnetic eyes from her while the medic spoke quietly to him, but the light in them faded and she knew he was being told about her missing memory - the part of her life before New Caprica. She suddenly realized she was mimicking the worried look on his face and quickly looked away.
The man spoke briefly with the medic then continued over to her until he was standing in front of her. She stood up to meet him and lifted her hand to his face softly brushing her fingers down his cheek, not feeling the slightest bit embarrassed by the forwardness of her gesture.
"Are we in love?" She whispered.
He chuckled softly. "That was always a tricky question."
"Then what are we?"
He shrugged. "Friends, family." He put his arms around her waist, pulling her closer to him so he could whisper in her ear. His warm breath sent cold shivers down her spine. "You are a pain in my ass and I am a thorn in your side." She pulled back slightly, not sure how to take that, but he pulled her back into him. He nuzzled his face in her hair before continuing. "You are the reason I almost died and the reason I'm still alive. You're the reason I get out of bed every morning and the reason I keep fighting."
She pressed her lips against his neck and inhaled his scent, he smelled of sandalwood soap and….
"Lee." She sighed.
She was Kara Thrace, and she was home.
