The Slytherin common Room was lit dimly that night. It was a cool mid autumn night. The lack of windows in the dungeons made the room feel like a cave. There was a dank chill on the walls that made ones skin prick up. A stout house elf, clad in only a dishrag, scuttled into the room quietly. She was carrying a tray with some butterbeer on it.

The two Slytherins sitting on the couch were silent as the house elf poured them two glasses of the warm drink. The sharp eyed boy took the glass and glared at the small creature as it scuttled away.

"Filthy things," he said with a scowl.

The girl just looked up at him and cast him a look of much longing. She reached within her robes and took out a pack of cigarettes. She slid one between her pouty pink lips and lit it with a silver lighter.

She held out the pack to the boy. He took one and she lit it for him. They remained in silence, slowing inhaling and exhaling clouds of smoke. The girl took a long drag off the fag and watched the tip burn more brightly for a second. She opened her mouth and exhaled slowly, releasing a smoke ring from the confines of her mouth.

It floated away and dissolved amongst the clean air above her. The boy looked at her and cocked an eyebrow.

"Oh don't mock me," she said, replying to his look.

The boy shook his head. She rolled her eyes. He took a drag off his cigarette and felt the menthol burn on his tongue. He exhaled and watched the smoke rise in little spirals before disappearing.

The girl what was left of her fag in an ashtray and took hold of the glass of butterbeer. The glass was a stemmed mug, and was warm to the touch. The warmth of her drink met the cold of her fingers and she shuddered.

The boy noticed the sudden movement and placed an arm around her. She took a sip from the glass and then, noticing the presence of his arm, abruptly pulled away from him.

"You looked cold," he said softly.

The girl eyed him suspiciously, "Since when have you been one to care about me?"

He took hold of his mug and drank from it deeply. He shrugged. A quiet fell over the room once again. The boy and girl never said another word to one another. They drank their butterbeer in the dimly lit room. The fire in the fireplace slowly died and the room fell dark.

And they both sat together, content in their loneliness.
