The End

Silently, he watched her hair blowing in the breeze, its unruly curls wildly bouncing about. Merlin, but she was beautiful. How is it that he'd fallen so completely for her? He was the Malfoy heir yet he'd chosen to love a muggle-born witch.

Hermione Granger was no ordinary witch though. She was special and unique above all others and he knew he was losing her. He'd felt her slowly pulling away from him over the summer. Coming back to Hogwarts for sixth year had only strained their relationship more.

Coming to school had made the secrecy of their relationship harder to hide. They couldn't walk through the corridors holding hands like Ron and Lavender. No, they were forced to sneak off like criminals. He knew it pained her greatly to lie to her friends. He had no reason to lie to his. They expected him to have secrets. Especially now that he was marked by the Dark Lord.

He watched her for another moment, drinking in her loveliness. He'd been afraid to meet her. Afraid she was leaving him. Finally, he walked towards her. She didn't smile when she saw him. He kissed her lightly on the cheek. Gently she pushed him back and spoke.

"Draco, we need to talk…"

"I already know what you're going to say."

"I still love you but I can't be a party to it. He's evil Draco…"

"You think I don't know that! I don't want to work for him but I haven't got a choice."

"Talk to Dumbledore. I'm sure he can help."

"No one can help me now."

There were tears in her eyes as she started to leave him. They were starting to form in his too. To love and be loved was all he'd ever hoped for and now here she was leaving him. He wanted nothing more than to take her in his arms and make everything better. Things would never be better as long as Voldemort wielded the power.

She just didn't understand. He was doing this to protect her. The Dark Lord had found Draco's weakness. His love for the muggle girl used to force him into service. It was such irony that she was the reason he bore this hideous mark, yet the mark was what was driving her away from him.

"Hermione please… please don't walk away. I need you my love. You are the only reason that I breath."

"I'm sorry Draco. I can't… you're the one who chooses whether I stay or go."

With tears in his eyes, he watched her walk away, taking his heart with her. Making him truly one of them…
