The sun glittered through the trees, all was perfect. The brown bark on the trees cracked perfectly so that animals could use it as homes, all was perfect. The ground was damp, the moss was shining, the grass was covered in dew, all was perfect. It was drizzling rain, a nice breeze was blowing through, all was perfect. I watched all the morning birds and mocking birds flew over the forest, looking for an early worm. The hawks soared higher above them, searching for a lemming or mouse. The dogs, coyotes, wolves, cats, hawks, birds, everything has a place here. Everything fits in place here. Nothing goes wrong here.
I zipped through the trees, racing my sister for the kill. We were having a great time, my sister and I were neck and neck! We chased through bushes and thorns, trying to shake the other one off. We both paused out of breath and panting, "I don't see it anymore." My sister exclaimed! We had been starving the past winter, we can't afford to lose a meal.
Juadelin, my sister, looked at me. "The first deer of the season and we lost it!" I was upset, deer were rare creatures to this part of the woods. We hardly ever caught one, especially since winter just ended. Most either starved to death, or were killed by some other predator before us, or are still starving and are to skinny to bother with.
I saw something out of the corner of my eye and my head shot towards it. A brown, white speckled body of something peered through the trees. I got the head start that I needed.
My paws kept me on the ground, with every step I pushed off with my claws. My sister started gaining. I didn't think she saw the deer, I think she was just chasing me until she saw it. She always did that to me and somehow always ended up winning.
I dove into a bush, hoping I wasn't doing it for nothing. She followed me and got her fur caught in a bramble.
"Eieya! Again? Seriously?!" Juadelin asked.
I took off, leaving her to deal with it. The deer pranced into a field, I stayed close and quiet to the ground. I took a step every two seconds, careful not to let the deer see. My feet glided across the ground, I was ten feet away. Nine, eight…
I saw the body of a ragged Juadelin storm in past me, "No!" I leaped. The deer looked up for a split second, and then I landed on the deer. I did it quick and fast, not even what we are going to eat for supper should suffer.
"Eieya, why do you always win?" Juadelin asked, very upset. Her teeth bared in a smile, almost laughing at her stupidity.
"That's not true." I said at once. "Actually…" I paused, my brain was trying to process and figure out, "Why do I always win…?"
